What's the difference gt500 strut mounts

Okay, I have searched and I can't get a clear answer on this. And no I'm not asking if they will fit a certain strut. Here is my question... The ones sold on AM's site are an M-part number and said to be an upgraded FRPP part. The description also says they come standard on 11-14 gt500's.

I picked up a set of 07 gt500 struts and shocks from a guy locally for basically free, and since I'm a hoarder I was happy to take them off his hands. I was more interested in the strut mounts he had left on them. And after looking at the pictures on AM's site they have the same part numbers on the bottom side...

7R3V-18183-A
5R33-18183-A

They seem pretty stout and I'm wondering if they are the same as the ones mentioned above!?

Anyone have a set laying around that are the "upgraded" set to compare?

Second question that I'm sure people will flame me for but I'm going to ask anyway, should I give the 07 GT500 struts a go on my 14 Gt with the Steeda sport springs and these strut mounts just until I can snag a decent set of struts? I already bought some CC plates for the 11-14 struts (used Steeda) but I really want to get my car lowered.

My impatience is my biggest flaw sometimes. But seriously are these struts (granted they are not worn out which they aren't) decent? I'm guessing they are a little different in the valving department due to the extra weight of the 5.4? And don't the gt500's come a bit lower than a stock gt?

You cannot use those GT500 strut mounts with your 11-14 struts.

I don't plan on using them with my 11-14 struts. I know they are not compatible. Without sounding rude, that's not my question. If I used them, it would be with the gt500 strut you see in the last picture. I just want to know 2 things really. Are these gt500 mounts the same as the one labeled as an upgraded part and if not what's the difference, and 2 are these struts worth a damn?

FRPP says strut mounts in their kits are same as GT500. And these do not fit the top of the struts on 11-14's. However if your getting new struts, just go with the GT500 units and mounts and they will bolt in GT. For reference the rear Koni's are the same on both the GT and GT500.

^ where did you read that they are the same as the ones that would come off a stock 07 gt500? Just curious. I am planning on running cc plates with 11-14 aftermarket struts eventually. I just have these gt500 struts that are low miles and these gt500 strut mounts.

Not sure specifcally about 07 in regards to factory specifications, but they should work. You could look up shocks for those years and confirm, or call FRPP.

I know they will work. I just want to know from someone who has touched both the factory gt500 pre 11-14 and the FRPP if they are the same or not.

As far as the mounts or even struts, maybe Ford Racing can answer 800-367-3788.

The GT500 struts and mounts should fit with no problem. FRPP makes those parts for the GT500. As long as you match struts and mounts of the same model, you will be good.

Again, not the answer to any of my questions. But thanks.

If the part #'s are exactly the same then they should be the same part. Two different parts are not going to carry the same part # because you would never know what you would be getting if you ordered that part #.

My fiancee has an 07 Mustang GT and I have a 14 Mustang GT and I can't tell any difference in the strut towers. They look the same. I doubt the GT500's are any different.

That's a start. First person to give me any answer that pertains to my question. Thanks. I'm thinking they are next to identical but maybe the rubber on the FRPP upgrade is a little different

My guess is they're identical. I wouldn't see a difference in rubber being significant. They're about as double thick as the OEM pieces. My money is on they're the same mount.

I'm now kind of in the same situation now. I bought a set of what was listed as low mileage 2014 GT take off struts off of the Shelby performance listings on Ebay and was sent the same part number struts as was shown in the OP's picture of his strut. Mine also came with what is supposedly the factory springs and strut mounts. When I ran the numbers on the struts and springs, they came back to a 2007-2009 GT500.

Since the springs have one less coil than my factory GT ones and I don't want my car lowered, I'm wondering if the strut itself will work on my car. When I emailed the Shelby place, they told me all 07-14 Mustangs use the same struts except for the 13,14 track pack cars. I don't believe this as I've read that the valving is different depending on the application.

They sound like they don't want to exchange them. Does anyone know for sure if the 07 GT 500 strut will work on a 14 base GT?

You need 05-10 struts to match the GT500 mounts. I posted a pic here a while back on why. The GT500 mounts are thicker and 11-14 strut rod end shanks are not long enough. Not even one thread will come through the hole they sit flush.

If I don't use the GT 500 strut mounts or the GT 500 springs, can I just use the GT 500 strut with my 2014 GT strut mounts and springs? Thanks.

No. And the springs are not the issue. As was said above its the design of the top of the strut rod.

This is a GT500 mount on an 11-14 strut.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess now I'm going to have to return them.
