Cams for noobs.

I'm curious as to what would be a good cam that is durable and good for a street race. Looking for performance here and quality. I do understand how cams work to a certain extent. If you'd like to elaborate more that would be lovely. I really love the aggressive old school sound, but more than sound. Performance is key, at least for my ride. When I make the arrangements for the shop to add the cams, they will also be adding LT Headers with O/R midpipes. Kill the birds with one stone!

Don't expect to get an old-school lope out of the 5.0 easily. The TiVCT will fight you on that. You've also got 4 total camshafts to replace with aftermarket variants, so it may be quite expensive.

AM seems to have a few sets of NSR cams for $1,500. You also have to factor in labor, parts, and possibly a new tune if Bama doesn't tune for the cams you select.

Yes I realize I need 4 and I realize they're expensive. I've checked out AM too I realize their are different phases. I'm just looking for one to rock for the streets. Maybe something for the track. Nothing super crazy for drag racing.

The best engine guys that race on the track will tell you that you need all the other supporting MODS to make the cams investment work for you for HPR gains, but you allude to paying for some of those in the original post. Unless you disable the Cam Phasers which ruin street drivablity, most of the sound you seek will not happen.
As for old school sounds there is much cheaper alternatives. Mine rumbles just fine.

RV or 3/4 race cam works best

Lol RV cam? Cracks me up how many people thinks those are a healthy camshaft , they are less of a cam then stock and will not give that rough idle cam thump that most people seek

Get a good stage 2 or 3 cam if you want more hp. But that lopey idle just doesn't happen on overhead cam engines like it does on push rod engines.

You will need a ghost-cam tune if you wanna hear it lope and rumble.

Ghost cam tune + Borla Atak exhaust + good cams = it sound as good as you can get it

Not entirely true. My 2010 lopes like a beast and you can't 'ghost cam' a SOHC engine.
