Running 87 octane is fine, says it in your owners manual. You don't HAVE to run 93 octane. It just provides you with better performance. Yes these cars have high compression but because of the VCT it will allow you to run 87 octane with no ill effective.

The only effect of using 87, or 89, is that the engine pulls timing and as a result, you lose maybe 15 horsepower and torque. 93 octane gives you the full 420 hp and 390 torque available.

I'll never pump 87 or 89 ever again. I had to pump gas and their wasn't any shells or chevron around so I pumped 87 at 76 gas station. I put like 10$ to be able to get home and pump shell or chev. Big ****ing difference on the way home. it seemed like my car wasn't driving right. Especially when you're modded... Lesson learned tho.
