Just bought a 2014 GT. Road noise?

Car has 22k miles...

Brought the new car home thursday night, didn't really get to put any miles on it until today. I noticed while going down the interstate theres a howl that seems to be coming from the front driver side(could be wrong, hard to tell). It kind of sounds like a bad wheel bearing/hub assembly, but it could just be road noise and since I'm closest to the drivers side that's just how it sounds.

Does this sound normal for these cars? I cant see the bearing being bad at 22k miles, but its possible.

What tires are on the car? My stock Pirelli tires seem WAY too loud and I can't wait to get them off the car.

Stock tires are noisy and thats brand new. I went to pilot super sports from the pirellis, stock base size 235's and it is now one of the quietest cars I've owned on the highway.

Good to know. Too bad these tires aren't a little more worn cuz they are loud. After driving the car a little more I'm sure it's the tires.

Not the bearing. I have the same problem. Tires need to be rotated regularly. Once you have a wear pattern on them they'll make noise until you replace them. That's one of the disadvantages of having wider or larger wheels in the back as you can only rotate your front tires from one side to the other in the same position meaning that if your tires are directional they have to be removed from the wheel and switched in the same orientation. Not flipped.

Pirelli's are loud and get louder as they wear. I just recently switched out to Cooper RS3-A tires and they are much quieter. As a benefit, 90% of the steering shake I had since day 1 is now gone.

Take it to your local dealer and have them check out the drivetrain. Get the report on paper in case you have a warranty issue layer on. Install any stereo upgrades. Play your tunes anytime you drive, drowning out the tranny noise. That's what I do

Piloting a '13 GT with track, frpp handling, glass, mgw, bmr and sct

I just went from the P-Zeros to Goodyear F1's and yes, all of the tire noise went away. I would guess it is the P-Zeros.

I have been out test driving the same year and heard the same thing. I was wondering if there was something wrong myself. Did not hear it on a 2015 I test drove.

Stock wheels / tires kind of suck!

Besides being WAY to skinny for a 420 hp car, the stock wheels are kind of noisy.

When I changed to a quality set of wheels and tires the car was quieter and smoother (less vibration at high speed). The P-Zeros I believe are kind of noisy.

The stock wheels are heavy and MIGHT not be balanced as well as a NICE aftermarket set... One of my front (OEM) wheels had quite a few weights on it for being brand new.

Makes me think the tires or wheels are low quality to take that much to balance them. High end wheels & tires generally require smaller / fewer weights.
