Paint lifting on edge of hood.

This has to be a warranty issue. Am I wrong?

All 2010+ mustangs do this. Warranty depends on your dealer. Some say they won't fix it. Even when they do fix it, it comes back.

That's a ludicrous statement. they don't *all* do this or Ford would be in the grips of a GM-style recall years ago. It happens, yes, to some and yes, take it back to the dealer for remedy, if the car is still in warranty. Expect resistance at the dealer level but be polite and persistent.

I believe the cause is galvanic corrosion at the steel to aluminum interface. I suspect it occurs in places where there might be a little less seam sealer bonding the metals together. Just a theory because I don't have any of this on my 2012 GT.

Like actually replacing the hood and repainting it, or repainting your hood you have now?

Replacing the hood entirely. The dealer service adviser told me that the problem would return with the old hood, they only do replacements and it was approved by Ford in a few days.

If this happens to mine will they replace my racing strips I put on? I don't have this issue yet but I'd hate to have to deal with them.

I have the same issue, except my dealership told me they wont cover it unless the hood actually starts to rust and causes a hole.

Of course a hole will never happen since it is an aluminum hood and can't rust thru. There are 2005 and newer Mustangs all over my area with bare spots on the leading edge of the hood. It may not happen to everyone but every one should check under their hood for bubbles in the paint. My 2012 just developed a few. The corrosion will only grow if the bubble stays sealed from the air. I removed mine and sanded them clean. The bubbles are filled with white powder. If left alone they will grow and eventually move to the top of the hood. You need to look carefully along the edges of the hood on the underside. You can scrape these bubbles off with your fingernail and sand them to the bare aluminum which will never corrode. Mine were all smaller than a quarter.

Damnit. I believe I have some of those on my hood. On the underside. They will move to the top?

Escalate to Ford. The dealer is playing games with you.

I think they will continue to grow and many people with corrosion on the top stated that they seemed to spread from the bottom. I would not take a chance. Scrape them off now. A few bare spots on the underside are far better than bubbles on the top. It is ironic that bare aluminum will never corrode but under paint it is worse than steel! I will probably touch up my spots after a while.

I wonder if the fact that I'm opticoated that this will help mitigate any possible problems?

I'd say no. It's under everything. Doesn't matter if you gold plate it. If it's under the paint and wants to come out, it's going to come out.

My dealer painted my hood under warranty, no questions asked. As soon as I mentioned it, the service advisor immediately grabbed her camera and went out to take pictures. She said it's very common, but she still has to file a claim with ford and have it approved for warranty (which she claims they always approve).

I have racing stripes that were put on by the dealer, as part of the sale when I bought the car. So my stripes were covered as well. Don't know if it mattered that the stripes came on the car or not, it didn't sound like it mattered.

My dealer gave me no issues and explained how common it was as stated above, mine was kind of minor but noticeable on the lip and edge of previous owners terrible stripe thing and it allowed me to get rid of the previous owners horrible taste. They even offered to put my "stripes" back on for free since it was on the car when I purchased it(not even through that same dealer).

I had mine fixed 6 months ago. It didn't come out very well though. There are a lot of fish eyes in the paint and I'm worried it'll just make it worse if I have them do it again.

^damn. Did they replace your hood or just repaint it? Luckily for me white is easier to lay down. They will repaint it until they can get it right. I have no problem calling their asses out. I used to do body work so I have zero tolerance for BS excuses and shortcuts.

Happened on my 13, dealer repainted no questions asked. That was almost a year ago now, if it comes back I'll push for a new hood.

I went today and they took pictures and submitted the claim. They said they don't ever replace the part. Just sand the effected area and repaint the entire hood. I'm fine with that. I just don't want bubbles creeping up the hood. Good news is that I will have rock chips repaired and a small dent and some scratches all fixed for free. I just hate leaving my car anywhere. But I already told the service manager I am picky beyond picky, also the car is not to leave the property. I will be taking a picture of the mileage along with programming a mykey that won't allow them to have ANY fun at my expense. Half tempted to leave the hood and take my car home. I just don't trust anyone with my stuff.

IG @Oxford5pointoh

A friend on his way to work he saw my car in front of a house around 5:30am. When I got to work he told me he knew where I lived already since he saw my car in "my house". When we got out of work we went and he told me what house it was, the car wasn't there. I went to pick up my car from the dealer that same day and brought my friend with me and told them about that. He answered "oh there's a car the same as yours, your car hasn't left from the shop". They have cameras there and asked for the recorded videos, but he said they didn't worked. I wished I knew about all those features with mykey and didn't took a pic of my mileage. I knew they were having fun with my car since my mpg dropped from 17- 14.

Mine is also used. Bought off a dealer at 38,000km (24,000 miles). It has the bubbles starting 😢

Some of this may be under the 5 year unlimited mile corrosion warranty as well.

^ehhh maybe depending on where it is. They sure scrutinized my mileage and we're sure to take pics of my odo for the claim. Guy even asked me before he would even come look at it. He said "what year..again? Hmmm what's the mileage?" And it was in the tone of maybe I won't have to get off my butt right now if it's not going to meet the qualifications

Yeah, corrosion warranty is a lot more difficult to actually get a claim under. Most will be the B2B warranty.

They just painted it. It took a few days to get the sealant they use so it was almost a week. It looks good from 5 feet away but as you was it or really look at it you can see all the imperfections.
