3:73s. How close to shifting into 5th?

So I have 3:31 right now and since I'm a manual and staying NA. I'm figuring gears would help me get better times. Although, I don't want to shift. On a full bolt on NA. What's it like at the end of the quarter mile?

Thanks! Now let me look up our gear ratios lol on a stock or mildly modified 5.0. How much of a difference have people seen in times?

Your times could very well be worst going from 3.31's to 3.73's. Those 3.73 gears aren't the end all be all in these cars.

I know. I just know that most say autos should stick to no higher than 3:31 and manuals seem to be better off at 3:73 unless they go FI. I also plan to do some roll races at a track/airstrip. I was just thinking 3:73 would help with better acceleration while simultaneously giving me a hopeful edge at the drag strip

on the quarter mile, assuming you haven't upped your redline you will be at the very top of fourth by the time you reach the end.

When I was running 3.31s it was a crawl going to 60mph in second gear. Timing myself I hit 0-60 in 5.0 just after putting on MT Street Comp 305/35/20 which is like 28.1" tall.

My 3.73 now puts me back closer to 3.55 or something which is ok. I still enjoyed the 3.31 on 285/30/20 more than the current setup. It was much faster feeling.

If you get taller tires then yes I say get 3.73 but if your intending to stick with 27" or smaller tires then stick with 3.31. Less shifting.

I haven't 1/4er'ed my car yet but I know on the road course it hits the limiter in the low 120's in 4th with the 3.73s. I didn't track the car with the 3.31s. So assuming your car can make it into the teens in the quarter, you won't be getting into 5th.

But I think I wanna eventually run a slightly taller tire. Fills up the wheel well and a thicker tire looks better and takes impact better. I'm currently running 285/35 nitto nt555

When my car was stock with factory 3.73s it hit the limiter in 4th just before the finish line.

Sorry I meant 285/40. I think it's barely less that 27" diameter right now

I'm on a 28" bias slicks at the strip and I am just perfectly under the stock rev limit at the stripe. 11s at 115-ish. I went with a 28 for this reason, and to ease the hit at the front with a longer and wider contact patch. It worked.
