Roush ab too quiet w/stock resonators and too loud w/out

I tried and couldn't find any solid info on people who actually have done this mod so here's what I need help with. I have a 2013 GT that has stock cats, BBK x-pipe, and Roush axle backs. I removed the resonators and the sound was 'just about perfect' at normal driving speeds/slow and easy acceleration. For the most part deceleration sounded sweet, but still had a bit too much popping/crackling going on. WOT was ridiculous, but just a bit too loud. I'd rather not draw that much attention to myself. Today I had the stock resonators re-installed and it now sounds average again. Major bummer!!! It's better than stock, but just not sporty enough for me. Does anyone have a reasonable solution to my dilemma? Are there aftermarket resonators that would tone it down slightly without doing what the stock resonators have done. I live in SoCal so the cats have to stay on. I like a bit of the popping/crackling on decel and overall louder volume which is what the Roush's provided, but just too much of overall.

Exactly my situation too. My 2011 GT had Roush AB and no resonators. I loved the sound but it was sometimes just a little too extreme.
My 2014 has Roush AB with factory resonators and it's nice but not quite loud enough. I have been debating removing the resonators but then I'm stuck to nascar levels of sound all the time. I need my cats as well.
I hope someone can suggest a different resonator maybe that gives a middle ground.

That's a Roush axel back. Sound good as an axelback "only" and that's about it in my opinion.
You can try Magnaflow race bullets in place of your stock resonators as they will flow more then stock yet still tone you down a bit. I have not heard this setup but probably your best bet if that's the setup you wanna stick with. Otherwise change your axelback and start over.

Yeah, it's a frustrating situation. I read another thread and someone had mentioned trying Dynomax in place of the resonators. I just removed Gibson and replaced them with the Roush so I'd rather not start over again. Hopefully we can find someone with this set-up to know if it'll work or not.

Just trade me your roush Axlebacks for my gt500's and it won't be too loud.

What an offer!

I still don't see how going from Gibson ab's to Roush ab's would sound so different with the resonators removed, but just about identical with the resonators in place.

Dynomax bullets in place of the resonators or get gt500 mufflers.

Seriously. I'm down to trade as well. I'll give you the resonator deleted ota pipes and gt500 mufflers for your stock pipes and ROUSH ab.

GT500 are too quiet. Looking for Louder than Roush AB with same raspy poppy sound but not quite nascar loud when there's no factory resonators.

I am assuming the BBK is the after cat x since you said you had stock cats. I know it flows better than the stock h but that is contributing to the mildness. I had a different axle back but ended up removing my BBK after cat x for the stock h pipe and got a louder tone. It also sounded better to me. Might want to consider that change instead of more welding to the midpipe.

I'll tell you what I have a set of magnaflow street series axle backs that have a great sound. I'm wanting something louder if anyone of you guys want to trade me your roush exhaust.

i have a 2015 gt and had the same problem but solved it.first I had magnaflow completion on the axle back and I took off the resonator and installed straight pipes there in its place.well way too loud. like drag racing. and the popo was surely watching me. so I put magnaflow street for axlebacks and replaced the resonator delete straight pipes with the competition mufflers.wow. still got a deep throat to it at idle and sounds good , at wot it is heard.and no boom at all inside.the best part is po po no longer watches me.

I removed my cats with the jba h pipe and roush, I love the sound, when I start it up it's pretty loud but then it'll quiet down after it's warm. When I'm driving it's quiet when I need it to be and loud when I'm driving like a speed racer. I'm really surprise there's this much dislike with them. If I want a Prius sound again maybe I'll put my cats back on. But I get compliments constantly with my setup.

removing the resonators with the addition of the roush ab's increases the 'raspyness' and overall volume tremendously and you lose that deep traditional muscle car sound. it's really too loud (race car loud) under hard acceleration, but then again some people like it like that.

I've been researching my ideal exhaust setup for months in anticipation of buying a GT this summer. After reading TONS of threads and watching hundreds of videos, this is the setup I am going with. Roush AB, resonator delete with 3" custom pipe from cats to stock H and 3" pipe from H to ABs. These 2 videos have the same setup and I think these are the best sounding cars I have come across.

don't get me wrong, it sounds pretty sick about 85% of the time. I've been pulled over before for 'doing nothing' and was given a fix-a-ticket because there wasn't any legit reason that a ticket could be written, so I like to fly close to the radar and just not over it.

I have a set of Pypes Violators that will give you the sound you want without being ridiculous. I'll even throw some cash your way to make it worth it to ya!

Just got back from the muffler shop. Had them install 3" Dynomax mini Race Bullets. Finally sounds how I want it to sound: factory cats (live in SoCal and cant get rid of them), BBK x pipe, Dynomax mini 3" Race Bullets, and Roush ab's. The mini race bullets did the trick. Quieted things down a bit when compared to the resonator delete. Now it's kinda quiet when going slowly through the gears, but gets loud quickly when starting to get on it. I'd recommend this set up for someone who wants it to be louder than just adding axle backs, but not as loud as NASCAR.

I had my Lethal offroad h with roush AB for about 4 days. I got alot of compliments but i didnt like the fact i was constantly scared to get a ticket and if they hit you with no cats the fine is ridiculous. Went with quad gt500s. Doesnt sound as good but does the trick Click image for larger version

I'm running the roush axle back with the boss 302 side pipes right now. Anyone have a similar set up? I'm thinking of deleting my resonators this weekend. Any advice/guidance

hey Mr T ("I pitty the fool") 2013 GT -- I had my work done at American Muffler on Raytheon. andy does great work. I've got some Gibson ab's that might work for you if you want to check them out. they bolt on so it's an easy swap out and it'll step up the sound over stock, but wont be too loud.

You want it loud. Go to Cervini and check out their side exit exhaust. By the looks if it, it should be real loud.
