Cobra T56 swap in place of MT82

Anyone know details on a possible 03-04 Terminator trans swap? Looking at alternatives. My MT82 has been notchy from day one. At first I thought it was just new and needed to be broken in. 4 years and 36,000 miles later it has not changed, and just recently the clutch pedal stuck at the floor. I'm confident it's either the master cylinder or the pressure plate, and will find out once I get it into a dealer what the problem is.

But, if they only want to change the pressure plate and charge me the difference in labor costs, I'm considering just buying an aftermarket clutch and doing it myself.

Otherwise, I read the article in MM&FF recently on the T56 Magnum swap and it got me thinking about going that route. However, that's a $4k+ purchase. I'm sure it's a great swap, just weighing the options here..

It'll me a far less headache to go with the one that is meant for your car. All the custom work needed to make a 03/04 Cobra transmission work with your car will probably raise the cost up to that also....... And the gearing in the Cobra transmission most likely isn't too favorable for a coyote with such a steep 1st gear at 2.66

Ben calimer from rev auto sells rebuilt mt-82s (replaces all of the plastic junk) for $1800 I believe. And you can get $600-800 core charge for your unit if nothing is wrong with it. Be a cheaper alternative.

The transmissions itself are not that bad themselves.. Stock shifter, clutch, and rubber brake line are major culprits. The only downside of a good working stock mt-82 would be plastic shift pads.

he is not affiliated with Revolution Automotive, he does do MT82's but not for Revolution, Ronnie Reynolds does Rev's transmission work.

OP. as said, to avoid any issues with a swap, Id do the Magnum XL version of the t56 as it has the extended tailshaft designed for our cars

I've thought about this swap also and although I have only put in the Whiteline trans mount and replaced the stock rubber shifter rear mount with a urethane piece I still have the stock shifter. I would like to replace the rubber hydraulic line with a braided piece but only after separating the clutch hydraulic system from the brake system.
I had a Tremec in my 97 Cobra after replacing the stock 5spd and loved it. The only issue with the T56 Magnum is the gearing. The current gearing in my MT82 is perfect with the 3:73's I currently have and the T56 doesn't offer gearing that will match my MT82.
Unless I would be making 500hp at the rear wheels I think I'll stick with the MT82, and if something happens I'll rebuild it with better parts.............or maybe change the shifter. Although with the mods I've done now it feels 100% better than it did stock.
