2013 5.0 Clutch & Flywheel

Hey I'm looking into getting a new clutch and flywheel. I just wanted to get some opinions on different products. NOT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DRAG RACE ON. < I say that because it means im not constantly doing hard launches on the thing. Anyway, I was looking into an exedy clutch & flywheel, but then I talked to a mech that said they he has seen multiple mustangs come through his shop with prematurely failed exedys, & recommended me to look into spec or fidanza. Is there any validity to this claim? Im looking for a clutch that, in the end, will handle ~550-600 lb-ft of torque.
Also is it necessary to replace the throwout bearing when you replace the clutch & flywheel, or anything else for that matter?

there are failures with every clutch out there, there are also the untold stories or non-truths as to why they failed, I have a Exedy Mach 500 and absolutely love it, much better feel and engagement than the stock clutch, just a tad bit heavier which I actually like, and yes yes yes, absolutely replace the hydraulic throw out as well

I have the Exedy 600 stage 4 and the lightweight flywheel and I love it. I got that kit because I hope to supercharge soon and it actually included the throwout bearing. Not a single issue at all. engages totally different than stock and that is a good thing lol

If like for more people with a McLeod setup to comment.
I like exedy because the flywheel they offer is the best I've seen, but McLeod is really big with race clutches. It's a tough choice.

I can see that but they do have twin disc options which seems better suited for road racing applications wouldn't you think?

Also if any more McLeod guys comment please let me know yalls thoughts on the aluminum vs chromoly flywheel. I.e. are aluminum flywheels trustworthy, in my mind it seems like they would wear down really fast from the power.

the friction surface itself is not aluminum, there is a steel insert bolted to the flywheel that acts as the friction surface

read up on the negatives of an aluminum flywheel on a street car and see if you wanna get one, I'd personally do a lightened steel before an aluminum fw

Also, @sterlingbeast5.0 love your ride man. I love the sterling gray paint. When it is clean and done up properly it is by far the best looking paint on a mustang. imo. And i noticed you were interested in deerslayers mustang. I actually go to school with the guy the owns & drives it. He has a sweet setup.

Thank you VERY much. I agree on the color. I was really torn at first but thrilled went the way I did. Obviously you have great taste in color as well, lol.

I do absolutely love Deerslayers. Wish it was in Florida I could see in person.

I have my heart set on the centerforce dual friction. I forget the actual model but jegs has it for like $475. I want to go with the spec oem style flywheel and a centric tb. I don't see any reason to go with a twin disk unless your 600+ hp. I'm daily driven, and centerforce makes a awesome clutch. I'd definitely consider one.

The Mcleod pedal is so light, great in traffic . negative is its noisey at low rpm's. But grabs very well at any rpm.

I don't know if I can justify getting a twin disc though. I don't plan to do a power adder and I'm not gonna drag race the car so I don't really see a use for it. I feel like the exedy mach 500 clutch would be better suited.

All I can say is they have been around for a long time, and use cool technology with weights on the pressure plate fingers to create more clamping force with the more rpm. Centerforce is also made in the us of a where exedy is made in Japan and the exedy stage one I put in my 94 came with a useless throughout bearing that went bad in one week. Very frustrating. I would never buy an exedy again because of that experience. Otherwise it was a decent clutch. But the centerforce is not a fair comparison. It's a much better clutch. Mc loud and centerforce are top of the line. Exedy is more of a "budget" clutch. http://www.centerforce.com/company/centerforce-history

Well, you may have just convinced me man. Thanks for pushing through my stubbornness lol.

My only issue is that they do not have a t/o bearing for the 11 up cars

Watch this if you get time. They use a centerforce clutch in a terminator and talk about it. And show how to install It. It's a little different because of the cable clutch. But it's very informative. http://www.powernationtv.com/episode...etrain-special

The one I posted is made by centric and is only $94. That's just what I'd personally get.
