Sound tube removal

Hi confreres! Greetings from Brazil! I own a 2011 GT. I'm considering the removal of the sound tube that goes from the air intake to the firewall. It's too noisy in the cabin for me. Any drawback in that idea? Best regards,

There is no drawback, just make sure to plug up the hole on your intake tube.

A few companies (Blowfish racing, AM, LMR etc) sell block off kits for $10-15 bucks.

^ yep. I just got a blowfish one on eBay for 12.99. It's prob 5 bucks less to find this stuff on your own at a hardware store but for me it's worth it to save the time.

I found it easier to order the kit online. I couldn't find the cap for the air intake anywhere.

Sound tube delete

Go to any hardware store and get a rubber 1&1/2" rubber pipe cap with clamp and tighten the crap out of it works great. There is a dolman part at advanced auto that ll close the dash hole.

So you don't have engine noise pumped to the inside of the car via a little tube through the firewall. I found it was most noticeable for the callers on the other end of the phone when talking via bluetooth. After the mod, it wasn't automatically "Oh you're in your mustang, I can tell." anymore. Or "call me back later when you're not in the Mustang."

If you want your car quiet for telephone calls, music, SYNC to hear & understand you.... its better to have the sound tube off.

If you want to hear the engine noise more... you roll down the windows and/or get some exhaust mods!

I have the same issue with tne sync. Everyone imeadiatly says oh your driving. I had an F-150 last year and no one ever noticed.
Can you just block off where it comes out?and where does it come out?

My daily driver is an F-150 w/ Ecoboost, its practically silent in the cabin at idle.
Not so much for my Mustang convertible. Quite a bit of extra noise with the convertible top, catback exhaust, etc. But the sound tube removal definitely helps.

Now if you want to just experiment. Just pull it off the firewall and let it hanging. You can just put a piece of duct tape over the firewall hole as a temp fix. Just so you can kind of hear what it would sound like off.

The diaphram in the big part is what is supposed to keep it airtight. If you remove the hose from the other side (by the air filter) you have to cap it there or it will suck in unfiltered (dirty) air.

Removing it also cleans up the drivers side of the engine bay nicely.

This was my main reason of taking it out.

I took mine out just last week to put my Iso-Clutch Reservoir in to separate the clutch and brake fluid.
I also bought mine from Blowfish and it fit perfect without having to drive for an hour trying to find everything...............just showed up at my door.
I've had a tune and CAI on the car since I've owned it and really never noticed noise inside the cabin from the tube. When I took it off I didn't really notice any difference.
It certainly does make the engine bay look a lot nicer and less cluttered.

I haven't had a chance yet. I'm watching my 3 yr old son today. I will have it on prob tomorrow and I will let you know if I can notice a difference. Beside the obvious difference that the tube is gone and it looks better under the hood.

I went ahead today and deleted my soundtube. Used the dorman part for the firewall from autozone and the hillman part for the intake from Lowes, I can hear less rasp and more deep rumble now but have not tested the sync. Ive only had my Borla axleback for 1 week as well so Im still in the honeymoon phase. Driving with the windows down!

So I tested the sync with no soundtube this morning. Called the person who always says, Oh your driving. I say how does my phone sound, she says it sounds great cause your not driving,
so I explain that I am driving and she says, I cant hear a thing.
And even with the new Borlas, the interior sound is much better.

Now that I've driven the car some distance with the windows up without the sound tube I can totally tell where the differences are. I think it's a huge improvement. Wish I had done it long ago.

It's quieter in the cabin. Definitely. I like it. Windows down and it's back to hearing mufflers.

Oxford... thanks for the tip. Got the same kit.... took about four days from the east coast, and it took about 15 minutes to get rid of the sound tube, and plug up the holes on my 2011 GT.. I wear hearing aids, and there was little I could do to quiet the noise what with a Flowmaster exhaust and those Zero Neros singing their song and the sound tube piping in that God awful sound. With the sound tube gone...there is a significant difference between what was the cabin noise and what now is the cabin noise... and my tube still had the foam baffles in it. Much nicer ride now. Now I'll have to update my avatar pic with the sound tube gone... much cleaner.
