Removing Sound Tube - WoW

I removed my sound tube yesterday with the cheap kit from Blowfish Racing.
Wow, what an improvement from the artificial engine sound inside.
I have Roush axlebacks so I can hear the car plenty but now I can actually talk to passengers, on the phone, and even use bluetooth voice.

For those of you who don't know what a sound tube is, it is a tube that is in the engine that routes engine sounds from the intake to the firewall. It makes it so you can hear your engine in the cabin for "sound effects."

Also cleans up the engine nicely without it.

I've got GT500 axlebacks which make plenty of sound without needing that tube, so removing it should help me to only hear them singing their lovely tune out the back.

Just a FYI, order my Blowfish because it will cost just as much to buy the 3 simple parts yourself. Just minus the time and driving around to find them.

Everyone with a GT and axlebacks or some kind of aftermarket exhaust system should remove the sound tube. You will realized how "ricey" the sound in the cabin is.

I agree to buying all from one seller instead of looking. I wasted to much time driving around to not even get all the parts. I got the same package but sometime idk when my firewall hole plug from the kit fell out =[

You really have to make sure the plug into the cabin is fully seated. Press firmly around the inside rim at the edge of the indent...you will know from the feel...the entire edge from the indent out should be flat against the firewall...no bumps or bulges anywhere.

If all else fails, duct tape the hole. I think I'll go check mine...

I was able to get all the parts from a feed store less than a mile from my house for like $6. And thanks to the previous comments I gotta go check my firewall plug as well just to be safe HAHA

I hear that careful part but in my experience not hearing can be even worse only later.

Not being able to hear one's wife now and then isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Checked my cabin plug... safe and secure.

Removed my sound tube during the Steeda CAI install, but I also have FRPP GT500 quad tip axlebacks. With those, or any aftermarket exhausts, no need for a sound tube. Just my personal opinion. Funny thing though, most with V8s remove it and those with V6s leave it in.

Thought the v8 was the only one that got it? Seems like v6 guys that have them, added them.

Yeah, my mistake. I saw it on another forum. It probably said "V6 owners install them" instead of "leave the in".

And why not. I liked the sound of it. Should have been standard on V6s also. It's really an aural treat hearing those engines sucking in the air.

It just got to much for me with all the extra improvements.

I'm removing mine tomorrow but I'm very doubtful I'll notice any difference. With Roush axlebacks, how is there any sound I could possibly hear down by my left foot? Especially just some intake air whoosh sound. At least it will clean up the engine bay.

I've never heard any intake sound in my car, even when it had factory exhaust. Am I deaf?

Bill it's funny I kind of felt the same way. But once you remove it you will understand what it did. Plus it looks a million times better with it gone.

It's not intake sound. It literally sounds like the real (not artificial ) engine sound coming from under the steering wheel. It's hard to pinpoint the exact sound after, unless you play with it putting it back & forth on & off.

I wear hearing aids, and background noise is a problem causing real difficulty understanding what people are saying. With the sound tube attached the cabin noise was enough to almost negate hearing the radio except at a high volume, and my wife had to shout for me to hear anything... riding and chatting while listening to tunes and the noise was next to impossible. With the tube out the situation changed significantly for me....now if I can find a way to over-ride the noise from P-Zeros meeting California concrete freeways... the tune from the Flowmaster exhaust is much sweeter and clearer, however.

I just read in a BMW article where they (BMW) will be offering in an exhaust sound through the radio speakers for their electric/hybrid cars!

Yep. This is not new. BMW, Ford, Porsche, etc... have been using this for over the past 5 years. 5 Ways That Manufacturers Enhance The Sound Of Their Cars

Porsche likes to call it Sound Symposer. For BMW, it’s the Active Sound Design. Lexus prefers Active Sound Control. Ford? Active Noise Control.

What they all need is an electronic cut off switch for when you're using your bluetooth cellphone. Do that & things would be perfect.

Got my kit today and installed it. I went for a twenty minute highway ride to test it out and as soon as I pulled out of my parking spot I noticed the difference. On the highway it got even better, I didn't have to turn my radio up as far as I usually do. It was a little weird though almost felt like something was missing and it was, that unneeded noise.

It'll be a fairly quite ride for me down to MGW on Monday to get this shifter installed. I did say fairly because I gotta open her up a little on the drive down.

I purchased a used 2011 with gt500 AB. Sounds tube is still attached but I get nothing in the cabin other than hearing the gt500 from the rear of the car. But after years of loud concerts in guessing it's my already f'd up hearing. Lol
