You are absolutely correct. If you look even closer, it doesn't have the rollbar either. It's not my car. Someone else has good taste in color combinations

I get why you don't want to take the SS to the track, however, wouldn't it be more cost effective to just pick up a GT350 ??

It would probably be cheaper, but maybe not. The GT 350 lists for $47,000. I think I can find a private sale 2015 GT for $24,000 (found a couple in the $26,000 range but haven't yet tried negotiating on any of them). I'm waiting to hear from Shelby what the total cost of parts are. If it's less than $23,000 then the SS clone is the same price.

The GT350 certainly would have less power. The 5.2L is 526hp at 7500rpm. The SS is 750hp+. I understand the 350R is crazy capable on the race course and maybe a little more HP, but the 350 is a little less capable and slower. I may want to drag with the clone as well, so that extra 225hp on the clone is important.

If I went with the more capable GT 350R, it lists at $61,000 and I expect to be way below that in my total build + car costs.

I'll let you know once I finish the pricing of parts with Shelby.

Shelby doesn't " make " anything, sourcing the parts from the OEM would save you big bucks !!

Technically, most of the parts that go into a SS are modified from what the third party manufacturers make for general resale. For instance, you can't buy the exact Shelby Borla exhaust from Borla. You can't buy the Shelby rims directly from Weld Racing. The Whipple SC and tune are different from what Whipple will sell you directly. Lastly, the combination of plates and bars that comprise the rear suspension modifications are specific to Shelby as well.

So, yes these parts are made by the major aftermarket products manufacturers, but the parts themselves have custom engineering in most instances specific to Shelby and the manufacturers won't sell those parts to you directly.

Looking forward to the total cost of the parts you're going to buy from SAI.
How about an item by item breakdown, in case another site member wants to buy something.
.........( or do they just sell to SS customers )

$23,005 for the parts. I've got quite a list of parts, ranging from the supercharger to coolant tanks to differential cooler to brakes to ford racing suspension parts to roll bar to exhaust, etc.

I'm going to look through in detail this weekend and look at prices if I bought them direct (regardless of the differences between direct vs. Shelby modifications).

As a quick note I see on the list of parts that the 2.9L Whipple SC is $9,000 from Shelby. The same SC direct from Whipple at first looks to be $7,395. But, when I add the dual fans, the billet throttle body, upgrade it to polished stage 3, include high flow fuel injectors, add the high flow intercooler upgrade, and put on the tune-delete option I am quickly up over $9,500 from a direct order through Whipple. So, that seems in line from Shelby (maybe a little cheaper surprisingly).

The Wilwood brake kit appears cheaper as well from Shelby. I may be getting a frequent-flyer discount that is pretty substantial. Not sure yet.

This is going to take me a little time to work through all the details.

Probably around 10-15% less than you just paid for it.

Here is what looks to be a well sorted race car at a bargain price.

I know Joe Sr. from my SCCA racing.......and I'm not really looking for a full on race car.......but I know how much was spent on the car and that price is a bargin.
The GT350 was a very...very....very nice car.......just don't need another garage queen........but I'm tempted.

Lol.
It is tempting, isn't it?

Perhaps Medwards might be interested?
It's already built, and will likely run circles around a SuperSnake on a road course... Clone or otherwise.

hahahaha.....if it's not street legal I'm not interested. Plus, I think that one is way past my abilities both now and forever. However, it does seem like one heck of a car. Might not beat a Shelby Terlingua though

The theme to my SS and the theme to the "beater" SS clone that I may build is that they are both built in the 50th year of the mustang. I wanted the SS so I can get back to my youth (driving around like the cool kid with a *****in' car) and actually do it this time in a really true *****in' car...not like the bland 69 mustang coupe or fake SS396 Camaro or fake 340 Dodge Dart I used to drive as a kid. Then I liked driving the Super Snake so much that I don't want to drive it into the ground since it's a numbered car and all. So, I'm considering building the other 2015 car to put a gazillion miles on (and hopefully not get a gazillion tickets). With those 2 cars I'll be satisfied...and my wallet will need a lifetime to recover.

I agree with ole'rodder. Garage queens...they are nice to have but not too practical. However, selling one to buy one...that's not a bad idea.

Here is a picture of one of a handful of "race only" cars Joe built for the CanAm series a few years ago............SBF with Hilborn Mechanical Injection....Called the Genie and this was taken at Laguna Seca during on the historic races maybe 10 years ago...........wish I could have been behind the wheel........

Sweet!
Yeah, that's probably a little more my style, rather than the mustang. I like the relative simplicity.
I'm not sure how well that I would be accepted in the historic racing scene, though. I would likely start legitimately racing with someone, and might be considered "too aggressive" and not be invited back! Lol.
It would be fun to blast around in the summer (in the middle of the night!) in that baby though!

I think building a clone/mod'd car is great and will save putting a lot of miles on your numbered car which will help if you ever decide to sell it.
I put maybe a little more on my garage queens.....yep, that is a garage queen when you only put 1500 miles per year....at least in my book....it remains to be seen exactly how many miles you'll put on the SS.....I'll bet she is going to be really fun to drive........taking her out to blow out the cobwebs and stretch her legs occasionally!!!????

Guilty. Roush got less than 900 miles last year. But enjoy that SuperSnake! Looking forward to the drag look you're wanting.

Here is the list of parts to build the clone. I have the Shelby parts/prices listed. I've guessed on a number of the retail sites prices (and gave the hyperlinks). There is one or two items I simply couldn't find or grabbed an older model part to compare prices. So, BE CAREFUL using the hyperlinks if you decide to use this post to order anything.

It does look like there is a pretty substantial markup....and I've asked about that. However, even with the markup at least I will know I got exactly the same part as used by Shelby, so I may simply pay the markup. More to come.

Please note that this list is only the speed parts associated with the SS. None of the body parts, interior parts, painting of carbon fiber body panels, or emblems are available for purchase. This includes the rims and tires (those are $4,000 themselves). So, the total cost to build the clone is going to be a fair amount more than just the amounts in the attached spreadsheet after I've bought rims/tires/hood (which I have to have made) and stripes.

One thing I may add is an oil catch can. Shelby installs these on SS and Terlingua's that will be run on tracks on a regular basis. My car does not have one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mo...FYMdgQodbQ0GIA

This is what I used on my 14 TrakPak and had never had any issues...I liked that they also had the braided Goodyear line to match their "plug and play" units..IMHO

.
I run the same filter on both cars, more function than cosmetic.
Jegs - ( $ 49.00 )
Spliced into the stock OEM hose, & I can see when to empty it.

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately those are Shelby GT wheels not SuperSnake wheels. The SS wheels look a lot different (have a bend in the splines and they sweep out from the hub). These are the ones Weld sells that are the closest looking they are allowed to sell (they make the actual SS wheels).
SP540 • Weld Wheels

But thank you for looking and man if you see a set of 2015/2016 SS wheels let me know. I'll buy them asap!

5.0L COYOTE OIL-AIR SEPARATOR | Part Details for M-6766-A50 | Ford Performance Parts

Ford racing oil separator for the clone and I'm going to install also on the Super Snake. This is the one that Shelby is recommending I use.

Shelby threw in two of them free on my order for the clone parts Total of the parts with the customer discount ended at $21,500 + shipping. Basically below retail going from manufacturer site to site. And I have exactly what goes into a Super Snake.

Had a very happy day. The Super Snake is home 10 days ahead of schedule. The streets were dry but there is residual salt (dry) on the roads. I know I shouldn't have, but I couldn't help myself. I put about 5 miles on it with my neighbors kid in the passenger seat. He almost **** himself twice, and exited the car with a big ****-eating grin.

I am going to buy a used, white 2015 GT. Looking for as inexpensive as possible. Then I am going to turn it into a Super Snake clone (sans body panels and emblems). So far all I'm finding for sale are GT Premiums and lots (lots!) of V6 cars. I had a bead on one that met my criteria for $27,000 and should have jumped on it but I didn't. It's gone.

This one is reasonable....but it's black. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Mustang...m=191833085576

This one is white, but the price is ridiculous (and the interior is fuuuugly) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Mustang...m=231880951648

Sucks looking for a used car. Lots of time with no results.
