What transmission fluid to use mt-82

I know there's 100,000 threads on fluids to use in the mt-82's but I'm a little lost. I'm on my second one that was covered under warranty in late 2013 at around 30,000 miles. It's a 2014 trans and had no issues until now. From second to third it clunks and goes into third rough. Also under hard acceleration in 3rd the shift knob vibrates a little and you can hear the gears meshing. What fluid should I use? I don't want to make more problems, I had a bad experience with with my tremec t5 I my 94 with synchro not playing nice with new tranny fluid.

By the way it gets up to 100 in the summer here and 0 in the winter so I'm going to need something with a funky weight

Go with amsoil MTF synchromesh fluid, easily the best out there! Its really thin, and will help you with notchiness Recommend by mt-82 wizard Ben Calimer. If you're concerned about summer heat, you can switch to MTG and keep MTF for winters

I run Amsoil MTF Synchromesh as well and it's fine for all climates. . . . I think you'll be happy with it. MTG is a bit too thick.

I'm using MTG and it's great. It doesn't get too cold here though.

Motorcraft DCT with motorcraft XL-18 additive... Fine when it's warm out, not perfect 1-2 change when cold, or even cool out until gearbox is warmed. I may try AMsoil for my next change. I have tried BG and Redline so. The Ford stuff is the best in my '11, so far.

The Ford tech that did my tranny knows alot about the newer coyotes and I'm pretty sure he filled it with that revised dsg fluid with the additive. But oncr the car gets hot its almost like it thins out to nothing. And in the winter this fluid is great. It can be 0 outside and she slips in to second like it's 100 out

For 2014 correct? Just making sure I didn't miss anything. I have that chunky crunchy 1st to 2nd shift sometimes so I've been researching this today. Sifting through all sorts of info on what type of fluid to use, what's better etc....

My question was whether or not your measurement in quarts pertained to a 2014 or not. I don't have my manual available to look at currently.

Looks like the Amsoil Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30 is the way to go, from what I've read on the web. Doesn't get terribly hot or cold here in CT.

I used Redline MTL in CT. It was an improvement over what they put in my early 2012 build. Scored from my local parts monger

I too tried a bunch but, if your trans is making noises, no fluid change is going to help, really. It can ease the cold weather crunching and smooth shifting but that about it.

Best I found was Redline MTL.

Just finished filling my tranny with Amsoil synthetic 75-90 manual and transaxle fluid. The stuff that was in there looked like kool-aid, very thin n watery. Put 3 quarts in, minus the left over in the fluid filler and the stuff that spilled. Bent a zip tie at 90 and there's fluid in there. When I unscrewed the filler plug nothing came out. Always under the impression that it should weep out of the filler hole. The shifting feels more positive, jmo.

5.0 fill is just under the fill hole. The fluid in there is good quality (Ford QS). You might find rougher shifting on colder temps with anything thicker. Thicker doesn't mean better.

I figured with summer coming I would go with the 75/90, seems to shift fine. One thing I did find out is that NAPA stocks all kinds of Amsoil products.

If your going with the MTG 75/90 it does take a bit of effort to shift when cold. I actually had to go from 1st to 3rd and not force it into 2nd. When warmed up the shifting is fine. I may go with the 5w30 Synchromesh stuff.

A note from a licensed Amsoil dealer, FYI.

I just checked the AMSOIL website, and they no longer recommend any of their lubricants for your transmission (but that doesn't mean that one or more of them won't work well). That is because Ford kept changing the specification from year-to-year, and even model-to-model within years. Ford now recommends this fluid: Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid, Motorcraft P/N XT-11-QDC or equivalent meeting Ford spec. WSS-M2C200-D2. For total fluid change add 27 mL of XL-18, MT-82 Transmission Additive. As an AMSOIL licensed Dealer, I can't recommend something not backed by AMSOIL Corporate.

I don't want to derail this thread, but are any of you guys with the chunky/crunchy shifts using a shifter bracket?

I have an MT-82 and used to get grabs/nibbles/crunches going from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

I tried the Barton 2 Piece shifter bracket and it helped, but was still there.

I tried the BlowfishRacing Shifter Bracket and it's 97% percent gone. (still notchy when cold till the fluid warms up)

Still using stock tranny fluid. I think I'm at around 22-26k miles now. (2014)
