My first drag run

So my buddy and I have had a friendly rivalry (very friendly, we're buds) so we went to the track to put up or shut up...

His car
2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with a 426 swap with cams, intake, full exhaust, tune. 20" american racing wheels.

My car
2011 Mustang GT, JLT intake, Tune, muffler delete Pypes axle back exhaust. Stock 19" wheels, and all season tires.

All in all i had a great time! Addicted! He is getting in touch with his tuner, who apparently can't tune a cammed 426, like he advertised he could....

...dunno really what that means LOL.

He had a 6.1L 371 CI Motor that he sent out to be bored out to a 426 Stroker. (He did that after he drove my car, LOL, saying, "No F#$&ing way.. I'm sending my car out to be done now for sure!" Thus our real friendly rivalry) To his car credit, its SICK, but unfortunately after he did the motor he has had nothing but problems from his revised tunes...he has been trying to get it right since spring...

It's a modern fuel injected crate engine of the 426 HEMI of the 60s and 70s. Hence third gen 426 HEMI. But a stroker isn't a bad substitute.

What kind of times through the traps?
How was your buddy's 60' vs. your 60'?

All I care about is trap speed. Could care less about E.T.
Only thing that matters ✊🏻

One feeds the other, most of the time. The capacity for reducing ET is directly informed by how much power you have for a given weight of vehicle and thus, how much trap speed you're capable of over a fixed distance. Yes, you can play around a little bit and make the track a little longer artificially to build up a better head of steam but, most often, that improvement tops out quickly, especially in a car.

To me trap speed has always been about HP and ET is all about launch and traction.
It's all about who trips the lights first.

Trap speed is what I pay attention to, bc it relates to the kind of racing I do and like. You trap 125+ you have a fast roll car

I have a manual 2015 GT with PP. I don't drag, or I would probably have an automatic. The 6 spd is a lot of fun to drive though. In the 60s we used to power shift, on the street and the strip. Took me a long time to get comfortable with keeping the gas to the floor and going through the gears that way, but I won a lot of races against 396s and GTOs ( I had 4-4-2 with try-power and Hurst competition plus) because of shifting alone.
