Life and living it

Here's a pictorial journey of the last 3 weeks

3 weeks ago I evaded death by a gnat's eyelash, (yet again, sadly, this is not the first time I've been close to the edge). Couple busted ribs only, shockingly.

Yesterday I brought home a new baby: 2014 GT, stock, loaded, automatic car. It's a quite late build car and I confirmed it has 2015 cylinder heads this morning. Kewl.

This new car may never be a total replacement for the 2012 I loved beyond reason but, I think it will help me on my healing road. It may never be the same but its differences make it interesting and amusing in its own way.

Piece of unsolicited advice? Hold the people you love close and tell them how important they are; you never know when you might not get another chance.

That is crazy. I'm glad you survived that. I'm sure your loved ones are glad to see you didn't get a convertible :p (definitely inappropriate time for humor, I'm a horrible person)

I've been almost dead before as well. Cracked spine, brain hemorrhage, broken arm, broken pelvis.. So yeah. I know the perspective you're speaking from on how fast things can change. The only thing I remember from that week is my mom crying when I woke up. Burned into my brain-- no more motocross. cant do it

9 brain surgeries, so I definitely understand where you are coming from.

Wow, I'm glad that you are okay. Your new car looks very nice and a great color. How did you determine you have 2015 cylinder heads and does it give your car more power?

Three bolt water pump, a different casting shape visible on the RH front corner of the cylinder head near the intake runner and a 348 code which is likely the first cylinder head date code when they started using these. The code is on a sticker under the coil cover, DS. Wouldn't expect a ton more power, as the cam timing likely matches '14 specs but, it is a better flowing head design.

I'm just crazy lucky, when it really counts. That's how I know it's really bad...because that's when the golden bb just misses me. This has happened at least 6-7 times in my life. I can't explain it but, I wonder how many of my 9 lives I got left.

Season ends at the track this |Friday....time to slap the slicks on and get a stock baseline, hehehe.....

This automatic is, officially, awesome. Three shifting modes, fairly snappy shifting stock, reasonably good logic and it doesn't seem to be sapping power much.
I'm betting a tune would be spectacular with the auto.

It's definitely too soon to be considering supercharging the car; I'm still processing what happened three weeks ago and creating the circumstances for a repeat performance isn't top of my to-do list right now.

That red car was still good! Just buff the hood and slap a new door on it lol! I kid, but at least you got the best color. Sterling grey is the fastest 😉. Everyone knows that

Paint-less dent repair could have repaired that 2012

Instead of buying a new Mustang you could have called someone like the dent doctor to fix your 2012.

Oh Well, as long as your OK and was not injured permanently I'm 100% happy for you.

I love your advice:

It is soooooo true.
With people texting while driving, Playing with their touch screen crap on the dash, Dialing a cell phone, Eating, Putting on makeup, Reading a newspaper, and everything but paying attention to their driving you take your life in your hands every time you get in the car anymore.
Your new Mustang looks great and I'm sure you will enjoy it for a long time,

My car has a manufacturer date of Feb, 2013 which I assume is one of the earlier ones. It seems like model year 2014 had a longer than normal model year run.

Mine is May, 2014. They were making '14s up to June 20-ish, afaik. What I wonder is if the put the '15 castings on, did they cut them for '14 valves and use '14 cams? No way to be sure but, I'd expect so. One guy on svt had a '14 head on the left and '15 on the right.

All that really matters at the end of the day is that you're ok and live to enjoy everything that is great. Family is always above cars even though after that, for me, it is cars. Nice car.

Very interesting, I wonder if anybody with a 2014 with the 2015 heads has dynoed their car to see if there is a significant difference

Glad you are ok and agree 100% with the advice.

I also did not know some later run S197s got S550 heads and all that is really cool. Any way to tell if they did the S550 (boss) rods and pistons too?

Again very glad this ended as it did and not anything majorly serious for you. Just make sure you report ANY potential health issues now from the crash.

Yeah, max power no way but one thing is clear: the stock tune on my '12 was awful and the car had significant shortcomings that required immediate mods to address. The '14, not so much.

The engine tune is quite good, the car handles better, rides better, is quieter, the auto trans is magnificent. In every way, this is a better car, stock for stock, than the '12. I'm amazed how different they are when there were only evolutionary changes to the model.

Maybe we should start a new thread.... '15 heads on your '14?

Need data: production date, some engine pictures to help people point out the differences, etc..

I'm pretty sure the S550 heads are basically just Roadrunner heads. Not sure if the S550 got the Boss exhaust cams but I can't imagine there is a ton of difference between the Roadrunner Boss engine and the S550 except the intakes.

There is a thread on s v t performance on this. Pics and everything. search this title:

"Build date for 14's that might have 15 engine parts"

It looks like only the very late builds got this, May-June confirmed.

The s550 heads are not roadrunner heads. They are a completely new casting. I expect they are stacked with the regular '14 moving bits, as the ECM calibrations would have to be changed if they weren't, I think. Poses a bit of a conundrum for those going TVS or other PD, because the flanges for mounting are thicker and a bit higher and that means a blower built for 11-14 might not fit.

Well it was 600+ of Centri power that got me into this mess so, I'm a little wary of creating the circumstances for a repeat.

Oh and btw, I have learned to love again with this car. I cannot believe how much better a car this is than the 12, considering its just evolutionary changes.

Deja vu... Just saw your story and wow! Glad your OK. But I just couldn't help but have a flashback to last year. BTW I love the look of your new car, but then I'm a little biased.
