Running 10's at the track

My friend has a 2011 GTCS and he has an Intake, good suspension, and a 100shot of nitrous. He keeps arguing with me that it will do 10's with slicks. Give me your opinions so I can shut him up cause we all know that's not happening

I would think he has a shot at high 10's. Heck my buddy had a Grand National that made under 480 to the wheels and his car ran 10.80's on slicks. With good suspension and slicks, I say its very possible. If its an automatic, that should make it easier and far more consistent.

That's because they suck. Ha ha ha. How is it that my buddy could run his 480 rwhp Buick Grand National that weighed 3,472.3 pounds in the high 10's 1/4 mile but a 550 rwhp plus super car can't?

Sounds like a side bet and a put up or shut up track day looming to me. Win or lose, no track day is a bad day.

There was a guy here with tires, an X-pipe and like a 100 or 150 shot going low 11s in crappy Houston weather. I would say he'd have to work for it, but its doable.

It's very doable.
Coyotes run in the 10's to low 11's NA.
Shaun from AED took his Manual 12 and ran 11.7 with nothing but a tune and slicks.

That's why supercars aren't as popular in high level drag racing.

Torque. Think about torque

What gears?

Without a good tune it will be tough but I can see him hitting a 10.9XX with a great launch and good suspension.

I would hope its tuned if he's running a 100 shot of nitrous.

I think it will have to be a rocket ship off the line. What are his suspension mods.

Yup. Generally people don't get super cars to drag race, unless its 1/2 mile or longer. Thats when you start to see the Lamborghinis out. But for hard launches don't see too many of them. Then again, they were never even built for drag racing.

A lot of you are really underestimating how easy it is for a coyote to dip into the 10's.

Maybe we are just used to how hard it is for a Cyclone to dip into the 10s since this is the 3.7 section. LOL

He did some research and he has ford racing suspension. Equivalent to the cobra jets suspension. He's got 3.73 gears and no tune on that 100 shot.

He has to have a tune with 3.73s. Unless it came with them from Ford.

It can be done. The wet kits add such a rich mixture of fuel and nitrous that your stock tune is still relatively safe on a 100 shot. That is especially true if you run higher quality fuel on days you plan to spray. Mixing a little bit of VP 112 into the gas tank would not be the worst idea (Knock protection).

What would be more dangerous than running a stock tune with a 100 shot is running a 93 octane regular tune when spraying nitrous.

That's exactly what I did.
My car was tuned a few days after driving it off the lot.

I was spraying my 100 shot on a NA tune.

I have vmp tune and their 82mm pulley. How much difference would it make if I changed it to 79? Also is it safe ?

I've been running a 79mm pulley on my 5.0 since maybe February and that's nothing but weekend driving, handful of track passes and some driving real fast next to other cars in Mexico. No problems at all, but I run ID1300s and E85 also. My car made 668rwhp/549rwtq on a mustang dyno with this set-up on a VMP tune. I never ran a 82mm pulley and have no idea how much of a difference it would make. Easily a pound or two of boost difference. Maybe 10-30HP depending on your set up if I had to guess.

They enlarge the interior of the casing to allow for more air flow.
