Trans gear for dyno pulls

Why do I always see recommended gear for dyno pulls as...
5th in a manual.
4th in a auto.
And that it should be done in the gear that is closest to 1:1.

While 5th gear for an Auto is closer to 1:1 than 4th gear.

You want to be closest to the crankshaft speed. When using other gears you are either multiplying torque or losing torque figures.

Yeah but isn't 0.86:1 closest to a 1:1 than 1.43:1 is?

less than 1 is an overdrive gear, and is going to put increased strain on the motor.

I saw that one!
They never said what the tire was rated for.

Looked like a normal all weather tire to me. Definetly was not smart to wind it up that high for that long

OK thanks. Some of these things are hard to find by googling.

Here it is...

They also mentioned it was at the top of 5th gear.
Also, didn't notice the on screen note at the beginning that read, "...W/200 SHOT".

My 3.31 coyote ran out to 180 mph in 5th gear on the dyno at 8000 rpms lol ... we decided to do the rest of the pulls in 4th.
