As for the smell, if you know what your car smells like before the cats light up while you are backing out of the garage.....that's what your car is going to smell like all the time.

I'd be willing to bet 90% of the cars on this forum have at least 1 illegal mod. Window tint, tinted lights, non dot lights, carb compliance, etc.

I own 1 vehicle with functioning emissions. When it gives me an issue it too will be removed. I also do more for the environment than most epa nuts.

I also could care less if others approve.

And those running HID's in halogen projectors are the worst offenders to oncoming traffic............high beam salute time, folks!
Just reminding folks that they are breaking Federal Law sure sets people off here....seems to me they doth protest too much.

Exactly. We all pick which laws we choose to break. Risk vs reward.

FWIW. I removed my cats. Picked up 18hp. Passed emissions on 93 and e85. AED tuned and barely smell anything? Y'all must have some serious sensitivity issues with your noses. But if you have serious questions on doing it then don't do it. I'm in Texas. So I guess it easier here to pass tests

It is even easier when you have no tests to pass I just try to let people know it is illegal everywhere and not just places with testing.

I knowing mentioned this before but my old roommate got pulled over and a big fine/fix it ticket in Wisconsin for no cats. Wisconsin is a no emissions no inspection state.

Yeah it can happen anytime you are pulled over and someone really wants to get you.

Was it Baretta that said......."Don't do the crime if you can't do the time?"..........it has nothing to do with the officer being "really out to get you."
It has to do, quite simply, with someone knowingly breaking the law --- knowingly risking getting caught...........and getting caught.

What I meant by that is it takes an officer looking for it specifically to get you. I doubt most officers during a normal traffic stop are going to get down on the ground and look for cats.

OK..............gottcha...............I believe that officers should get training on this, After all, the sound of the exhaust alone would be half of the "maybe you should look underneath," probable cause.

Yeah I can typically point out catless cars based on the sound. Definetly unique. If I ever got a fix it ticket I wouldn't mind though. Nobody's fault but my own.

Can't hardly see the cats underneath, unless you are on a lift or jackstands. The frame and K member are in the way.

Would almost need one of those mirrors that they use on ferries to check for bombs.

Are there counties in Washington that don't have sniffers to get your tabs? I was thinking this was statewide....but in the boonies, maybe they don't test this way?

Yes, they charge (I think, at last I did this) $32 for a two year sniff..........lucky us, huh?
And, all they do is plug into the OBD II port and hit a button on a computer.

With all my Mustangs, even with SCT tuning, I keep a set of hi-flow cats.
Give a phone cal & speak with your local Mustang/Speed shop and ask the same question- That's my recommendation.

Would high flow cats eat up any power? Im assuming you would still make more power going catless rather then high flow cats. It's the power and sound that I am after right now.

I've never bought a tune for any of my cars.............but aren't tuners making more HP with high flow cats in place than the catless cars?
Seems to me that is where they invest most of their R and D because most cars have cats..........can they even legally offer a tune that they sell --- knowing it is for a catless street car? I would think not, and that the Feds would be all over them like white on rice.

Tuners are all for off-road use along with catless midpipes. That is the way around it. As far as more power I believe with a na car with cats is a negligeable amount less than without

The only time it is a problem is inside my garage, and that is only on older carbed vehicles running uber-rich during cold start.

I just had this in a recent mem day parade.

My brother and nephew were in what you might call the back seat with no top. Slow speed crawl for almost an hour and zero issues with smell.

High-flow cats improve the exhaust note for sure, helps with some low end torque, and adds 75 HP.

Any dyno sheets to back this? Now everyone will want to run out and remove their cats.

75 hp? I want my money back then. I'm not sure if I gained 7.5hp by going catless and a tune.
