Big Exhaust Surprise-Anyone Want These?
Y'all here on the Forum convinced me to move up to the GT500 exhaust
I did and, thanks for all the good info here, I am VERY HAPPY !!!!!
The surprise came when I removed the old axelbacks, which APPEARED to be factory stock.
I bought this car with 6,900 miles on the clock and what seemed to be a stock exhaust system.
The cans looked the same, the rolled tips were factory, but surprise, surprise, surprise, when I removed what I thought was the factory system, the two front factory hangars were not on the mufflers, (lucky for me the brackets were still there)
From the engine back, the main exhaust system was being supported by the engine connection and a single rubber rear hangar.
The cans were smaller and lighter, and had no markings on them.
The cans were simply welded to the factory tips and factory curved inlet pipes, factory sticker still present. The wire feed welds were not the cleanest either. There was evidence of some weld splashing on the undercarriage.
The curious thing was there were two rusty plates welded to the subframe above each muffler but had been cut off. I painted them to protect from rust before I thought about taking a picture.
If these mufflers are anything special, I'd give them away for the shipping cost, however I suspect the previous owner traded this white GT in at CarMax in Gastonia NC on a used red Mustang convertible and swapped whatever upgraded exhaust was on this white GT.
The weld on the subframe tells me that the work was done at a local muffler shop.
I LOVE the car and love the GT500's - am really pleased, thanks guys.
Any ideas on what I removed?
Anyone want them?
Should I save the tips?
