Setting spark on SCT tuner

Ok so what should I set the spark to? It is default at 0. I'm running 93 octane, race tune and a tps sensor signal booster. It is great however it can be better, do I just advance the timing to 4 or to max and listen to engine for any abnormalities? Clue me in please thanks!!

NO...don't do that. Inch it up a degree at a time. If you need to add more than a couple, you should get a tune revision. Global adds or subtracts spark everywhere, which isn't ideal for what your engine needs, guaranteed. Pulling it is NBD, adding it can be hazardous. Proceed slowly.

By the billowing sails of the Beagle, your statements scare me. this is an 11:1 compression engine running on ****ty pump gas making over 400 horsepower. DATALOG.

Don't just "listen" for stuff. By the time you hear it, damage can be long done.

Datalog your spark advance 1 and spark advance and your KR. Include rpm, throttle position commanded and absolute and vehicle speed so you have some reference points.

I wasn't actually going to set spark to max value, I just read somewhere where someone did that. I have datalogged for my 93 tunes but still want to try advancing spark some.

You still don't seem to understand the seriousness of what you are suggesting. The timing curve is probably pretty close as is. What I am saying is go up in small increments, datalog after each change and see where you're at. It's the only safe way to do this.

Yeah I'll see what the datalog reads as of now where it stands with my current tune and see where it will be with advancing the timing. I was simply going to plan on advancing spark by 1 or 2 and that's all. How bad could that really be from 0?

Ok I'll take everyones advice and just send the datalogs in to a tuner to see how the spark is if it is that serious lol.

1 to 2 degrees could be nothing or rattling death. More is not better here. There is a point where power falls off fast, even if spark knock isn't present, because the spark is too far in front of the full compression of the charge.

perhaps you should do some research before throwing ANY amount of timing at your car! these motors don't take too well to adding global timing, lots of lunched #8's were the result of global timing, leave the tuning to guys that know what they're doing

I hear ya!! I have different tunes that address the fly by wire which didn't provide much improvement and it seems the pistons seem like they are retarded. When do I take it in on an actual dyno time will tell.

"pistons seem like they are retarded."
Is this referring to the ignition?

I'm even more uncertain op actually understands how an engine actually works.

Play at your peril...

Listen to 5LHO

You are taking a very big chance... I would ask my tuner how he feels about this....BEFORE I make any changes.

Definitely listen to those telling you to be cautious. You do NOT want to add global spark. In fact you should not be tuning with the handheld at all. The ECU blends values from several tables to evaluate spark. What is particularly important is the threshold your knock sensors are set to. If you add global spark and the knock sensors will only pull say 4-6 degrees of timing. You could set yourself up for a situation where the knock sensors would need to pull more timing than the tables allow. There are so many factors to consider with how these ECU's blend values and the handheld tuner just does not give you access to what you need to competently tune your car.
