Lower Engine Knock

I have a strange sound coming from my 2011 Mustang GT Auto. I have a lower engine knock that only happens when the car is warmed up, is at idle and is in gear.

Noise does not happen in park, or neutral or when moving.

I have a feeling it's not my engine at all but a lose part somewhere or my torque converter. I did some datalogs with Bama and they did notice some torque converter slippage on the datalog but nothing significant.

Anyone have thoughts?

if it sounds like a BBQ lighter or a typewriter, it's probably the coyote tick, ford says its harmless, no one has proven that it's anything more than annoying

Bottom end knock is either internal to the engine and serious or external and possibly less so. If i might suggest, pick up a set of mechanic's ears at a local tool outlet, put the car up on stands or a hoist, run it and start probing things for the source of the racket. If the torque converter is loose on the flexplate, for example, you definitely want to get on this as it'll destroy the trans and possibly the engine pretty quick if left untreated.

On a positive note, it might be as simple as an accessory drive or an exhaust tap, which you'll quickly find with the ears or see with your eyes.

From the way you called it, most likely loose/cracked flex plate
