engine/trans whine

Should I change trans fluid every 25k on a manual trans? I have gear whine on decel and accel.

wouldn't hurt except for $

is it gears or tranny? Lower rear seat for help in isolating source.

Do you have aftermarket upper/lower control arms? You may be hearing increAsed nvh. Mine makes a similar whine at highway speeds . Didn't do it till I added upper control arm.

I would probably just change out the stock fluid for a high performance fluid and let her roll.

all gears or just some? Rear end noise will often be present in gear and out. Trans will only be in gear. If in several gears it is something common to a number of gears, like an input shaft bearing. single gears indicate a problem with that gear cluster.

I had an early life implosion of an input shaft bearing that fragged a pile of stuff downstream. Ford rebuilt the trans and it was fine until the untimely demise of the car in Sept.....I have an auto 2014 now

Well has it gotten worse over time?

Helical gears don't make noise unless their relationship to one another changes...and that means bearing failure or in some other way the tolerances have changed between them. Mine whined like a 3 year old in the cereal aisle before Ford fixed it. It still shifted perfectly but, man, there were alot of fragged bits when Ford took it apart.

You could put a little thicker fluid in there, like Ford QS, which may quiet it a bit at the cost of stiffer shifting when cold in the winter.

I just hate bringing the car in for anything I may think is abnormal. Ford may just tell me yeah it's normal just to get me out of their hair and then they have to break down parts and investigate? Or are they crazy skilled and could fix it easily?

no effing way. It's a full teardown to see what the problem is. If you don't want the hassle, don't even ask, trust me on this. It was a month of some of the toughest negotiating I've ever done to get Ford to fix this and, I have on the bargaining team for multiple collective agreements for my union and I do this daily as a Vice-President.

Well, the gear whine is nowhere near as bad as the videos I've seen but it's there. I don't think I'll bring it in after hearing that unless it's extremely evident of a problem. It's like going to Ford court where you must prove your case no thanks!!

I think I'm just going to put all the recommended fresh fluids per the owners manual. Can't go wrong there I think but those are certainly excellent brands!

I remember something similar where it would whine in all gears except 5th and the answer was transmission bearings...something about 5th being a direct drive 1 to 1 so it didn't use all the gears?

I would find another person (or a good dealer) near you and compare to hear if it's the same. Drive train is 5yr 660K wtty. I would try on their dime before anything else.
