Mustang CNC'd Shift Column

Does anyone know I can get a machined piece of aluminum like this for my mustang? Know anyone who does this? Make note - I have a Barton short throw shifter and 2 post bracket.

That would make your shifting worse.

What would be a good trick/product to use to know that exactly what gear I'm in? My biggest fear of a manual car has been shifting into the wrong gear and over revving the engine.

Mustang CNC'd Shift Column

Trying to hit those gates would kill you. You may as well practice on learning how to shift properly. That's the last thing an MT82 needs is a specific spot your aiming for even with mods. I have an MT82 with Barton shifter and 2 post as well as the linkage spacer from MGW. I have no problems rowing thru gears rather I'm in it to win it or cruising around. Try positioning your hand better on your shifter allowing you to only push or pull the direction your aiming for. As far as 3rd goes don't try to put it in there....you said you have a Barton so from 2nd cup the top of your shifter and push STRAIGHT forward torward your radio. The self centering springs will do the job for you. Just try it sometime.

Hard to put it into words I just do it. 1st and 2nd cup the right side of your shifter ball that will allow you to slightly pull torwards you while pushing for 1st or pulling for 2nd. 3rd is explained above. 4th is the same...hand on top of ball and pull straight back. 5th you spin your hand cupping the left or inside of the ball and push out and if your banging 6th then well....lol. Like I said hard to describe its just something you can try. I just happen to make it work when I want it to.

Have you done this? There is a rev limiter on your engine right? Cuts power if you go over "X" rpms.

Really, the only gear shift you should worry about is banging 3rd back into 2nd. I've done this once when I hit the gas prematurely which rev'd the engine and matched rpms for 2nd gear. Redlined and lost power. I instantly knew what happened and had the clutch back in and in 4th but thank Ford for that limiter! If you're worried about hitting 4th from 5th trying to bang into 6th...yikes!

I have over revved as well due to incorrect downshifting. Mine didn't cut out but I was heavy on that clutch pedal to pull out.
