Cannot drive in 1st gear without car choking

So do you know if this is for all mustangs or manual cars?

Put car in 1st gear and release clutch very slowly until it crawls.

The tach doesn't want to stay steady and chokes and near stalls like I am riding a mad donkey lol.

Is this normal?

Sounds like your carburetor is on it's way out.

I think it already left. Or maybe Ford forgot to put one on his car!

Obviously we are not serious. No carbs on our cars since they are fuel injected.

In all seriousness, it will depend a lot on your gears. I suspect that if you have 3.31s the car isn't going to like you trying to do that. Probably wouldn't do it as much with 3.55s and not at all with 3.73s or higher. Shorter gears need more engine revs.

I remember the 85 my cousin had was cfi and his was an auto. So if ur saying your was carbureted than I'm guessing it's was manual? I'm sure his was cfi so that's the only explanation I have that maybe the auto was cfi and the manuals were carb. Il have to do some research to be sure

yes! that's it, I was trying to think what the difference would have been, the auto cars were limp wristed cfi fuel injection with non roller cam, where as the manual cars were rate at 210hp I believe

U know it all makes sense now. Back in the day I remember him saying his had less horsepower than the manual. Never questioned why but now I know why. Learn something new every day

Really no gas? Well there ya go no wonder it spits and sputters. The only vehicles I have driven that did not use throttle input to take off with were my Semi trucks and a few farm tractors. I mean there might be others but not a Mustang come on man use your head on this one.

Lets not be to mean! Yep, I used to drive an old 66 Pete log truck that had a 5and4 and I could shift all the way to 3rd under no throttle, empty of course.

Lol I did not think I was being to mean. I forgot my buddy had an old Dodge truck that if it got stuck in snow or we wanted to mess around we would put it in Granny gear and we would all get out of the truck to push.

There are many gas engine cars that can be brought to a slow roll, in 1st gear, without touching the gas.
Never owned a manual Mustang so can't talk for that one.

I've begun to notice recently that on level ground, I can very slowly let out the clutch in first and the car begins to roll on it's own. It goes maybe 3-4 mph and I can let the clutch all the way out and it keeps on going for a bit.

I almost started wondering if I could stall it lol

I'll clear up some things for some.

Believe me I expected this from a mustang forum.

Anyway, this is my second manual car and my 3rd car. First was manual, then auto, then manual so I've been driving for years. I also do not grind the gears anymore since a new shifter was installed over stock.

I never drive in 1st without any gas because I have never needed to. But would be nice so I don't partially ride the clutch sometimes in bumper to bumper traffic.

I was also curious since a video on youtube if you go to around 8:20 you can see his car is rolling just fine in 1st gear without any gas. So explain this to me.

Mine will drive by itself in 1st, the start is a bit slow but on level ground she will go to about 5mph. I never do it though unless a speed bump is coming up.2011 GT MT-82 3.31 rear. Don't make me attempt to make a video.... haha
