Finally moved up to a 5.0

Traded up to a manual 2014 5.0 Premium in Ox White, couldn't be any happier. Picking it up tomorrow in the afternoon after taking off my aftermarket parts on the ole v6. And it only has 5k miles!

Anyways, besides performance mods which I'm delaying until I can master what the car has to offer now, what are some essentials?

I've read that a oil catch can is easily worth it, any brand in particular? Better shifter maybe? I'm all ears guys.

The most important question is what aftermarket parts do you have for sale ?!

Haha probably nothing you don't already have. Steeda intake, front strut brace, Raxiom smoked tail lights, and rear mud "flaps".

My first mod was the shifter. No matter what you decide to go with, ANYTHING is better than the stock pile of crap. I had 700 miles on mine when I did the swap.

Congrats on the purchase, you made a wise choice ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

For me, the car has to actually sound like a V8, so I went with a new axle-back exhaust. Followed shortly thereafter by a tune.

Manual trans? Focus on shift quality (either through full shifter replacement or the bandaids that work, too), rear suspension (wheelhop control) and tune. Auto? just tune it and jog on.

Manual trans, I forgot to mention that. I haven't driven a manual car since the high school days of a 1996 Eclipse GS, so I have no idea about the quality of the shifter, clutch, etc.

It's a hunk of crap. Upgrade it and you will be amazed at the difference

You can see how cheap the stock one looks compared to the ford racing one next to it. I chose the ford racing (same as the Barton with two post bracket). It has the most throw reduction and gives you total control. One of the best mods you can do. I also threw in a Steeda trans bushing insert. Some will say it causes NVH, I didn't experience this. Just made the transmission firmness that much better.

I ditched my Bob's catch can and just installed an F-150 ecoboost PCV valve. I was going to get the Ford Performance oil separator but I really don't think it's worth it with how little this new PCV valve lets through. I would do a tune and at least shifter bracket as your first mods.

I agree that only the MGW is worth it, as a complete shifter. It deals with ALL the MT82 shifter problems in one package.

I used the PCV from a GT500, which is the same as the one in millions of econoline vans so, very cheap. Just cut the electric heating plug off and screw in and go.

I found my old car (stick) drank oil between changes so, I had that and a catch can (JLT) to help. My new auto doesn't do any of this so, it's unnecessary. The reason the stick's do it is because they are in the overrun more and experience more engine braking.

The rest of the shifter gives a better indication of what's different, compared to the cheap stocker.

Had to do it again, I'd save the money I put into all the bandaids and just go here first.

I have an auto now, so, IDC but, that'd be my choice.

Wife is already tired of hearing about my build list lol

Do any of you guys know if the 2010-12 OEM tail lights are worth more than the Raxiom smoked ones? The dealer doesn't care what I give him, so I figure I'll make a couple bucks on the way.

I'm sure you could sell the raxiom lights much easier. I'd take them off and sell them.

Lmao you're not wrong, I knew the 5.0 was faster, but goddamn the feeling of the torque putting me back was the second thing that sold me.

If you are thinking of a catch can first, look at the large Moroso. I am amazed how much oil is there after a 1000 miles. It is easy to drain, and mounts. Some are just floating on the hoses.

Personally I would look hard at suspension/wheels/tires before you try to make it go faster. Got to be able to control what is there first. Then go for the go fast add-ons

10-12 lights ain't worth nothing except as a repair part so, take the aftermarket stuff off. If you had 13+, they'd be worth a pretty penny, because people actually want and like them...and they are about 800 each retail.

Thanks guys, the only reason I didn't ask them to remove it for me is because a close friend of mine actually work at the dealership chain, and he told me they would be genuinely offended. Didn't want to make him look bad after he helped me swing a deal.

The old v6 and wife's car logos were removed before we took them off the lot, no free advertising!

Thanks man, I'm actually getting almost together of parts and when they're bought, I was planning on stopping by at your shop to get them installed.

Have you ever gone to Nashville Cars and Coffee?

I went to the one of Franklin. It was pretty sweet, but not enough classics for my taste. Plan on going back sometime this year though. A friend of mine has a CTS-V that goes every time. He said there's an F40 that goes sometimes. I'm wanting to see it in person! But the toys are still in storage. So... Next month.
As for the parts no rush. When you're ready you know how to reach me.

F40?? I've only seen one in person and that was a couple years ago back home.

Yeah that's the one, they just say Nashville since the name of the city is more recognized. Apparently on the first Saturday of the month is when the rarer/exotic cars come out. Let me know if you're ever heading out to it or another stang meet and maybe we can meet up. ๐Ÿ‘

And yeah, an F40 comes a few times from what I'm told. Plus we have an older couple that lives in franklin that we service their Mercedes. They take their chevy hot rod to it. Still trying to get prepped for this year.
Then there's the meets at the Corvette track in Bowling Green too. Now that's going to be really friggin' fun!
