Yeah, I had a similar welded muffler the dealer had installed on mine when I got it. They droned terribly so I put stock back on until I could rescue my GT500s.

Yes! I went through the same situation as you.

I just had a Borla Atak Cat-back installed with the stock mid pipe and the thing is way too quiet. It always sounded louder in the videos I watched but I constantly find myself straining just to hear my exhaust. In my old set-up I had a cat-less h-pipe with the slp loudmouth axel-back but that was a real bad combo cause it was so tinny and trumpeted like crazy. I was thinking about maybe trying the cat-less h-pipe paired with my new Borla Ataks. Is it really that bad sounding? Theres no way it could be worse then my previous set-up since it was a muffler delete. At least these the borlas come with mufflers.

Bought a '14 GT in January. Stock exhaust manifolds but no cats, scavenger X-pipe, Flowmaster Outlaws, 3-inch. WAY too loud, especially in that 1800-2200 rpm range.

When I bought the car one of the plans was to get LT headers, hi-flow catted H-pipe and a catback...previous owner had an MBRP race catback (3-inch) new in box, which comes with the race (outlaw) muffler, which I bought. Now that I've heard how loud these outlaws are, I really don't want any part of it.

My question is....from what I've seen, the GT500 mufflers everyone recommends are 2.5 inch, could I use a GT500 axleback welded onto the mid-pipe section of the MBRP piece? I assume you'd just put a reducer between the two?

Could be wrong but I think the gt500 for the 5.0 is 2.75. But yeah you should be able to weld that up

I second the Corsa Extremes, with their double helix x-pipe. I have had mine for close to a year, and the sound practically goes away on the highway, but can scream at high RPM.

I wonder if the Borla Ataks would be similar to to the Corsa extremes as both products are 2 of the loudest standalone axelbacks and both companies claim drone free.

From everything I have seen and heard, they are similar. Ataks are a slight bit deeper and more pop, with Extreme being a little more exotic sounding and louder at WOT. I have Extremes on my coyote GT, and about to order Ataks for my coyote F150. Mainly because of the option of split rear output on the truck.

Exactly! I might as well try it out and see for myself what it sounds like. If it sounds too crazy im not quite sure what to do next. Maybe I could work out a trade for a more tame muffler with o/r pipes.

I got Flowmaster Outlaws on my 2012 GT. Love them! Quiet when driven decently and screams when over 3,000 rpms

Here's my exhaust note (stock cats, H Pipe, and resonators)
