Wanting to Make Serious HP in 2010 GT

I'm looking to make some serious HP in my 2010 GT Automatic. Yes I know, I should've went with a manual but the 2010-2012 my favorite generation of Mustang (should've got the 5.0 though). That being said, what should I do to make 450-500hp?

400-500 is far from serious hp.

But anyways. Full exhaust, a blower/turbo or nitrous and some cams. Will get you to your goal and then some

Supercharge (with supporting mods) what you've got and you'll have 450 pretty easily, until the rotating assembly caves in. You could build the 4.6 properly to start and then supercharge but, that's serious money.

Was waiting for all of the above. High HP these days in Houston anyways is 1300+ if not more. Still regret not going to 2K this year...

If you are on somewhat of a budget I'd just have fun with your 10 and when the time comes grab something newer with a little more power and do some small bolt ons.

This.

Value of your car if it is in good shape plus the mods to get your car to 400-500hp is going to be more than a 11/12 Coyote. And then a 11/12 Coyote with basic bolt ons will walk away from your 400-500hp 3V.

Ok, finally found your mod list, not sure why you don't have it in your sig..but anyways, you still don't have much room to tell the OP what is considered "big" horsepower, neither does 95% of the other members on the forum.

Wanting to Make Serious HP in 2010 GT

Forged internals, built top end, single turbo = fun street car.
Obviously do all the necessary/mandatory supporting mods. And a damn good converter!
Or coyote swap it.

Adventure till you drop.

Everybody knows what I think of the 3V but, still, you have a nice car and you can make it nicer in your own way and enjoy yourself. I have a neighbour with a super clean 18,000 mile 2007 GT and we were talking about this very subject yesterday. I advised him to keep the car he loves and do judicious mods to his own taste and enjoy it, same as I'm suggesting here.

You can go crazy and make 1000 horse out of a 4.6 modular if you really need to. It's expensive but it can be done.

Serious HP means different things to different people.....if you are talking 500HP to the rear wheels.......that should hold you for awhile...........the "Ole" saying 40 years ago is still true today........"How fast you want to go directly relates to the amount of money you want to spend". My personal favorite is you can never have enough HP!...therefore your pocket book will always be empty!
You will need some type of supercharger...stall converter....good exhaust system...and well messaged suspension.........then go out and have fun!

500 rwhp is more than plenty for street use but when someone says serious HP, 500 rwhp doesn't come to mind. Not considering that a fully bolt on 5.0 makes almost 500 rwhp and that's just with bolt on's.

When someone makes a thread called serious HP, I'm thinking like 900 plus rwhp!

Just a near stock 3.7

"Serious" HP for around here with the tracks we have is single digit 1/4 times.

At for the 1/4 mile cars. For the street its a crapshoot. There are so many bad drivers who can barely handle a 240hp sedan.

I'm going to be 70 something this year and 464HP at the crank is fine with me...I can still scare an occasional Mustangsor BMW.......if I had 1464HP I could scare myself........on the street it's just crazy to have that much HP.....IMHO

If you can take a single digit car and drive it on the street.......more power to you.
I drove my single digit Maverick on the street twice....wasn't much fun and certainly didn't get very far on 5 gallons of $14 a gallon gas....big difference between a drag car and street car........unless you've got 2000HP and turn in the 5's.
Just like in racing..........there is always somebody that has a faster car/more HP for bragging rights and more money than brains...........

I was in a very similar situation when looking at basically 2 identical cars - 2010 and a 2011 GT Vert's. I started looking at HP numbers and just when the '10 would be about maxed out for bolt on's it wasn't much more than a '11 with a tune. Then looking at the very little price difference between the two was enough to step away from the '10. Now looking back, I think it was one of my smarter decisions

I dunno, I think I suggested he build it and have fun with it; that's what makes this hobby fun. More hp doesn't always equal more fun. It has its place but, you gotta know when you're happy.

So many people get hung up on hp numbers. They get their damn car dynoed and only look at the peak hp number. They don't even bother to look at the shape of their curve nor the range of usable power. I just love guys who tell me I need to rev my Mach 1 to 7k to "maximize" my power despite my power curve showing me my power falls off at 5800 rpm.

Nor do people bother to see if the controller is injecting loaded info. Years ago a local dyno shop up here was bumping atmospheric pressure being blown in from 14.7lbs to damn near 19lbs. It even showed 19lbs on his sheet!

Something as simple as opening and closing the hood on an inertia dyno between runs is misconstruing numbers. Reduced IATs will produce slightly higher numbers opposed to leaving it closed where most people I know have it when driving down the damn road.

Everyone needs to get off this "I have the most hp" bandwagon and pay attention to their cars. There are more cars out there that make "big" numbers and can't perform worth a crap, also known as dyno queens.

/end rant, I'm getting a beer

I used to be one of those guy that was chasing a number. I guess some ppl learn at some point that it's just a number. It's like saying that a gym rat brags about how much weight he can bench and then gets his *** kicked by someone that barely puts up their own weight.

I'm all about the dragstrip dyno. It's what me and the car can put together in that environment that gives me the most satisfaction. Generally, I get more than people expect out of pretty simple, targetted mods and practice.

Get your supporting mods to go along but realize you are limited to about 450 RWHP before you have to upgrade your internals.

Car modding depends on 2 things and 2 things only, what are you willing to spend and what can you afford?

OP, some have suggested what you need to achieve HP in the 450 - 500 range in your vehicle. Look into those and then start looking at your budget. It's that simple.
