Passenger side engine tick..

2014 gt, lund tuned, o/r x, borla s, 33,xxx miles

Took the car out for a ride this weekend and started hearing the noise so I brought it home to inspect. The noise is hardly audible when standing over the engine, but very noticeable when standing on either side of the car.

The noise is definitely coming from the passenger side. I used a stethoscope against the exhaust manifold to try and determine which cylinder the noise was coming from. I couldn't decide if it was # 2,3, or 4. Did some googling, found this...

5.0 Coyote Tapping/ Ticking/ Knocking - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

..great. Now I'm not sure this isn't a valve train issue, but there seems to be a lot of people with cyl 4 problems so I'm expecting the worst.

Has anyone with a tune/exhaust car had this issue fixed under warranty? Should I even try to take it in?

I think I read something about the water pump causing a ticking noise.

Look up TSBs for the coyotes

This is not coming from the water pump or the the a/c. It's coming from the engine. It can be heard with a stethoscope on cylinders 2,3, and 4.

I'm stopping by the local dealership today to ask about the warranty. If I can't get it warrantied, I'm sending off for an oil sample test.

I talked to a shop supervisor at a local dealership and he told me to reload the stock tune and he'd call me with an appointment. I'll keep this thread updated because I know there are others with this problem.

This is the reason I won't do a tune till my factory power train warranty expires

Honestly, if the engine is going to do this, a tune isn't going to be the cause. Frankly, I can't drive this car untuned, it's just so soft and flabby compared to the tuned version I can't stand it.

I had my transmission rebuilt when it imploded on my last car with a tune on it. They didn't even look or care but, in this case it might be more of an issue. The OP is best served to slap the stock tune on there like advised.

I think the plate kit might be my biggest obstacle if warranty work on the engine or powertrain is required.

I agree stock tune vs performance tune is night and day but it's an excuse for ford to void the warranty.

You just have to find the right dealership.

The one I bought my car from guaranteed they would still work on it under warranty if it was flash tuned.

As long as there is no signs of abuse, like going 20,000 miles without changing the oil

Does a tune on a completely stock engine really make that much difference? What do you notice most about having a tune put into the car?

better throttle response, increased torque and power.

I put my fully loaded 2012 BBP GT into the 11s on a mild 91 tune and tire so, that should tell you what a tune does.

I wonder if Lund tune was too aggressive. I have a bama tune but thinking about going with vmp since they are local.

Lund is an industry leader so, unlikely. I do like my Vmp tune though. Chosen bc automatic.

I too went with the auto. I chose bama because I heard Lund was too aggressive. I am a newbie to mustangs so I just read a bunch of forums and bama seemed the safest. What do u like better with land over vmp? I am open to anything. Bama doesn't seem aggressive enough in the low rpm range

Vmp or Mike Rousch for auto, no question. Lund is not "too aggressive", either but, the first two on auto.

I use Bama but only cause it's free lol. If not I would use MPT or get a dunk tune.

On another note, my car makes the same ticking noise when idling after just starting her up. After a few minutes of warming up it goes away

Mine does not go away. Seems to get louder as it warms up.

Mine was bad at one point and went away entirely (crosses fingers). I posted a youtube video of it:

Mine sounds different than yours. Mine is consistent with rpm. It's a consistent tick and if I give it gas the tick just gets faster. I may try to get a video.

Yeah, that don't sound right. This one needs a look. Can you do a compression test?

owwww yeah that doesnt sound anything like what im talking about. You cant even hear mine in a video, and it goes away when you rev it, and eventually gone once it warms up.

At least you have the warranty though

There's nothing normal about it. If i can't get it fixed I'm most likely gonna have to get rid of it, and I really don't want to.

There is no way anyone can say thats normal.
Maybe the BS problem with the front control arm bushings that are noisy, and only because it happens to so many cars.

But something like this I dont think so.
Make a big enough deal about it, or go to corporate and it always gets taken care of.

Jus play it cool. Trust me, the first person who loses their composure here loses the fight.

It took a month to get my trans repaired on my last car and, I'm a fighting union vice president and these were some of the toughest negotiations I've ever done.

Eventually it got done and the car was fine after that, until I killed it.

The dealership called today and said my aftermarket headers were leaking and it would not be covered under warranty and I'd be charged a diagnosis fee. Funny thing is, I don't have aftermarket headers.

Wow. You didn't buy it used tho did you? Maybe it does and you didn't know? But if it doesn't you should run far away from that stealership.

Well I couldn't stand it anymore and I left work early to drive out to the dealership and talk with them. To make a long story short, I think they put the janitor on the job. The old guy wasn't even in ford dealer uniforms like everyone else. I ended up getting the shop supervisor to take a listen to the car and he agreed it didn't sound like an exhaust leak. He told me he'd call ford and see what he should do next.

Now, I haven't talked to anyone in the shop but the supervisor, but he seems professional and intelligent. I'm hoping he calls me back with better news tomorrow.
