GT500 exhaust: 11-12 vs 13-14

I just got my brand new Shelby GT500 axle backs put on my 2014 GT (dual tips 2011-2012 style) and surprisingly they sound a tiny bit louder than the stock mufflers inside the car. Are they really that quiet? I can barely hear them when my music is playing quietly. I got a chance to drive a 2014 Penske GT that has 13-14 style GT500 quad exhaust and it was loud! are they that different?

If you know anything about these two mufflers please let me know!

The real question is, how do they sound outside of the car?

Both of my cars have similar mods & stock mufflers.
I don't think there is that much difference in how loud one is over the other.

The OE 13/14 dual tip GT500's I put on my 14 were a little louder at idle than the stock mufflers. When you bury your foot in the carpet it's another story, they are much louder than stock....I believe the Penske did not have OE Ford mufflers.

the GT500s will sound close to stock at idle since they are OE mufflers, but at WOT you will notice they are louder, but still within reasonable levels. I have the 4" single tipped GT500's on my GT and they sound great.

There have been a few dyno tests don't with and with out them to see whether they cost you power over aftermarket straight through type and I believe it results in a 5whp gain when you removed the GT500's.

I read that Penske GT got different air intake with a tune, I wonder if that helped the car sound louder. Also perhaps since the 2013-14 mufflers have quad tips instead of dual maybe that's why they're louder than 2011-12 mufflers?

The gt500 muffler and GT muffler are literally the exact same thing. The GT just has 2 baffled chambers where the GT500 only has one. For all intents and purposes, they're going to sound pretty similar until you're really getting on it.

So 2011-12 single exit Shelby GT500 muffler is exactly the same inside as a 2013-14 dual exit GT500 muffler?

The only reason they upgraded to the double outlet was the single was becoming a slight bottleneck and was causing a "hissing" sound from the air being pushed out.

love to see the evidence confirming that....I think it was an aesthetic decision, most likely. Why would hissing be a problem on a Shelby, har!

A bit off topic, but by removing the resonators, will it make the car sound a little, yet noticeably louder or a lot louder (with GT500 mufflers)? I just want a little more noise so I can hear it instead of just the people who are outside the car. Or should I just check out ford racing 49 state mufflers? I don't want too much noise, just enough so I can hear it without attracting attention of the cops.

84k miles and my GT500's sound pretty damn awesome! Now I'm thinking of removing those resonators and adding a better H-pipe

Love my Corsa GT500 Quad Sport Axlebacks - they do get louder after time. My husband put them on his stang and mine are still louder than his but I put 5000 miles on mine - he has only put less than 1000 on his. Pretty soon his will catch up.
