NC and SC Mustang owners questions

Ok, so for all of you fellow mustang owners in these states, I'm looking at jobs (got an offer for one in Charleston) and have a few questions. What are the inspections like in these states? I am coming from states with non-bs policies regarding emissions. What are the procedures for testing? How strict are they, and what exactly do they look for during an inspection? Are there any known ways of circumventing these procedures? Thanks for the help. I know that's a stupid aspect to consider for a job offer, but I look at everything, and thats why no matter what the pay, I would never ever live in Cali. Any help would be appreciated. Moderators please move to appropriate section if need be. Thanks.

I live 20 minutes from Charleston, we don't have any rules for emissions. I run catless with an off road H pipe. Inspections....ha, not in SC, no such thing. We can pollute all we want and enjoy our power. The only downside at all is property tax you pay on vehicles yearly. But when you buy a car in SC they max out the sales tax at $300 dollars, so that is a huge bonus. There are some window tint laws, I think darkest you can have is 33%. Most people run 20%, it's rare to get pulled over for that. There are some decent cars/coffee get togethers and you are very close to Myrtle beach mustang week. I say make the move, you won't regret it.

I'm in Aiken, no emissions in SC. Catless FTW! Also no issues with tint so long as you don't do something dumb like 5% on all the windows/windshield.

Just drive through N. Augusta at night with a black interior and 20% tint. You may not be fined, but the officers will gladly hit the blue lights as an excuse to say hello.

Also, driving 5mph on Martintown Rd is an instant road side visit.

Ah, the joys of Carolina. I get to drive through and visit my brother that lives in Aiken. I think I know most of the officers there now. Lol

No tickets to show off as trophies. I plan to keep it that way.

No emissions checks in SC though.

Thanks guys. Happy to hear that. Idk where I saw that they had it. It makes me want to take the job more. What are the best places to live in terms of bang for your buck, lack of crime, best located, schools, etc? Any ideas? I'm looking at working at Boeing (already work for them) in N Charleston in particular. Something I also like about that area is that I think there will be a car scene again. South Dakota, not so much (3 months out of the year, and small).

Charleston is another planet compared to SD. I am originally from the coastal low country of SC. I grew up in Beaufort Co on Hilton Head Is. My family was constantly going to events and festivals in Charlston and Savannah. Hilton Head is between the two.

I don't remember much of an auto enthusiast scene. My dad had a drag boat, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to other people and their cars until we moved inland. I also raced dirt bikes, BMX, and the occasional cart.

Again, I was drug to hell, I mean Augusta when I was about 13. We made multiple trips back home every year to fish, shrimp, crab, and enjoy the life we left behind.

I still make my way to the coast. I avoid the tourist destinations. I like to enjoy the smell of salt in the air. There is nothing like a good ocean breeze, swaying palm trees, and some of the best food the South has to offer.

If I relocated to Charleston, I personally would live outside of the city and enjoy the commute. I like the Folly Beach area. Again, I am a beach bum at heart.

Salty humid air can be a bit brutal.

I live in Chapel Hill NC and we have a state inspection. Not exactly sure what they check for but I'm sure emissions has to be on the list. I drop mine off, pay $40, and they send a notification to the state that you passed and then you can renew your license plates. I have not made any modifications to my 2012 V6 so I never have had any problems.

Thanks everyone for replies. Revvv, I'm currently in beaufort doing work away from my home in sd. Speaking of crabbing, I started that recently. Very successful, but those little bastards are a pita to eat! Love the Hilton Head area for sure.

Stay out of North Charleston.

Best schools across the board are in Mt Pleasant. More expensive to live here but worth it

SC you are fine. NC where I live around Charlotte, you have to get a full inspection tires, brakes, the whole 9 yards.
It blows lol. I just moved back to NC a week ago, but in Tennessee you could do whatever you want, no inspection except around Nashvile

Follow 17 South and cross the Talmadge Bridge into Savannah. Great city. Most people never make it off River Street, or the Farmer's Market. Lots of fun to be had this time of year.

Safety & OBDII testing. No sniffer... Must have CATS... Charlotte NC

I'm pretty sure there are places that will look the other way for a C-note. Charlotte is a pretty corrupt place in my opinion. Anyone & anything can be bought.

Must have cats or must not have a p0420 code for lack of cats? No dtc for instance?

When I lived in Atlanta, I allegedly removed the cats from my Dakota R/T and WS6. It was said that I may or may not have had faux cats with straight through piping. I didn't have any codes, and I passed Atlanta inspection.

Of course, this is the alleged story.

Yeah, I'm not saying that couldn't be done here as well, I'm just reciting what the inspection garages say the requirements are. For me it's not an issue, I'm all stock for now and I too have a workaround if I suddenly become "not stock".

After 27.5 hours of driving, I got the 5.0 down here. Got lucky and missed a deer in Illinois by 2 feet. That would have ruined my life. It would have been it for my truck and 5.0 possibly.

You mean there are places that require you to have doors on your car?

I'm not supposed to take this job till the end of july. I'm hoping to close on a house before then. Also sell my place back north and get out of my apartment here in beaufort all at the same time. I will definitely do just that though.

I normally make my way towards the Beaufort area to go fishing during the summer. I will let you know if I get over that way anytime soon.
