Looking for ideas on an exhaust?

I just bought a 2012 gt california special stick shift, all stock besides the optional 3.73 gears. Im not a fan of the stock sound. What exhaust setup do you guys recommend? My range is about $400 and i want something mean and loud.

I rarely hear it mentioned but the MBRP Catback Race Series has the deepest and most aggressive note I've heard yet. No rasp. Just a modern, mean, muscle car sound.

That Race Series sounds pretty good. I have never heard them before. Thanks for posting. OP- consider the GT500s. Deep sound. Not too loud. No rasp or drone.

I put the GT500s on my Boss & I'm totally satisfied but the younger crowd tends to like to wake up the neighborhood more.

I just noticed that he wants "mean and loud". Probably won't like the GT500s. A friend has Roush and they are pretty loud but they do drone.

I know it's been hashed 1000 times over. I have Roush and loud enough when you get on it, but quiet enough to drive around daily without your head throbbing. Zero drone. If anything, they could be a tad louder. Maybe my hearing is going because I'm mid forties and drove too long in an original Notch with o/r pipe and flowmasters.

Poke a hole in the mufflers = free

For $400, no recommendations. I would suggest saving for something you know you will like and is proven good quality

not to say you can't find a good deal on something used, but thats up to your google-fu skills.

Just heard that yesterday. I was all for Mag Comp catback or Flowmaster, but for the price the MBRP looks like the way to go. There's also the RTR Tactical which also has option for Blacked out tips too.

$400 won't get you anything crazy loud but in that range you could get roush Axlebacks. the drone is very minimal and they're pretty loud for just mufflers. you could eventually go cat less too which would make it very loud

Off road pipe then get a shop to cut out your resonators and mufflers, may be 100 or so over budget but definitely will be loud and mean. Drone is really not bad. My gf hates loud noises and she just cant stand the start up of the car but has no problems any other time

What about just cutting out the resonators to begin with.
$400 doesn't get you much, might in the classifieds. I've got a 3" Borla X pipe and over axle pipes (resonators cut out) I'd let go, but then your "stuck" using Borla mufflers. Have the cut out Borla resonators too in case that noise gets to be too much later lol.

Slp loudmouth! It's really loud, I mean it's a straight pipe. There's drone but it doesn't bother me that much, it's worth it for how loud it is!!! Definitely turns heads.

I've been doing a little digging myself. I think I'm going to go for the MBRP Race series catback and when I can I'll get their 3" H-pipe as well. However I ran across this and given the OPs budget is around 400, for a 100 more there's this OBX full exhaust system. Midpipe, catback setup. Never heard of it before and can't find any sound clips on youtube.

There's also this No name setup...

Here's another vote for Roush. They're right in your price range at 469 new. You could prob find a used set for mid 300s. They're loud like you want and sound mean. If you want louder but with budget in mind, consider the resonator delete for another 100-$200. I have Roush and am prob going to go for the resonator delete soon. Check out a few of the YouTube videos by Toxix. He had 3" pipe welded in from cats to stock H and 3" from H to ABs, deleting the resonators in the process.

Give an update when you decide!

Roush if you don't plan on ever changing anything else with the exhaust. They sound nice on stock exhaust, they sound like doodoo with other stuff done.

I'd go with some used borlas or corsas for 400-500

save up a few more bucks and get a quality exhaust. Also, do some searching on the forums and listen to the video, go to meets, etc.

You'll find one you like
