Hail damage

Not sure if anybody has any experience with this or not but it hailed yesterday and I looked at my car today and there are little dints all over the hood and the roof but nowhere else. It will be a $500 deductible for insurance to fix it and I know that will be cheaper than paying somebody to out of pocket but what are my options? Will they just pay somebody to fix it or can I get a new hood? Not really sure how all this works so any input would be great. I wouldn't mind getting money for a new hood because I've been wanting a cowl hood anyway and it's probably cheaper than another sock hood

We had the same thing happen about a month or so go through my town. So many cars were damaged we had car dealerships having sales (one was called "Hail Of A Sale" lol) and my insurance company actually setup an inspection area in a parking lot to speed up the claims.

Since they did this they were cutting checks on the spot minus the deductibles and we can get our vehicles repaired... I too had a $500 deductible and I had damage on my roof and hood. The report they did marked up damage on several places that I still can't find, but he was the "inspector" so whatever, but I could only find damage on the hood and roof.

After their inspection... they cut me a check for almost $1900 and I tried doing some of the dents myself. I have been able to get most of the roof dents out, but I'm not finished due to weather and such. But I did use the money and purchased a painted Cervini Hood which was only about $1150. I plan to finish the roof if I can and if not I'll pay someone to do that part.

Basically it's up to your insurance company if they cut you a check or directly pay the repair shop.

Ok cool I had heard they cut you a check if you don't owe on the car but if you do they have it fixed. But yeah I would just buy a different hood and pay to have the roof fixed with the money

You can either take the money and deal with it yourself or take it to an approved shop and the insurance company will pay them directly. Nice thing about that is if there is more damage found later they pay for it and if it's not done to your standard you can deal with the insurance co and not the repair shop (who typically will tell you to suck it).

Yeah when they cut the check they said if the repair shop said the estimate was too low they would reevaluate and pay them the difference but since I went with the hood option it was best for me to take the money and deal with it myself.

Did you owe on the car when you filed the claim? I just heard if you owe they typically don't write a check they just get it fixed. I would like a check tho obviously since I want a new hood haha

Yeah just got it a few days ago received a payment for $2,195 after my $500 deductible. Ordered the cobra r hood it should be here tomorrow then I just need to get it painted and get the dents in the roof fixed. The assessment shows other damage that I can't see but whatever I wasn't going to argue with him about it. Been having bad luck tho a few days after the hail it was raining on my way home from work so I turned the wipers on now I have a big scratch from where the wiper starts to where it ends on the drivers side 🙃
