13' GT fog light again !

My car just ended it's three-year warranty, and coming home last night something was flickering, I'm guessing it was one of the fog lights.
I had one fixed about a year ago it was a $700 fog light.
I see a $700 bill coming my way if I use a OEM part.
Anybody else having this nonsense with these fog lights?

Go to Tousley/White bear and just buy one. They aren't anywhere near $700 and the installation isn't complicated. I'd call them bc the parts list shows you have to buy bulb and light separately and that's not true, it's a sealed unit.

I've had no problems on my '14 with these and they are on all the time, bc DRL. Granted, I've only got 15,000-ish miles on the car.

Until it goes out I won't know exactly what it was.
Maybe everything will be OK when I come home from work later.
But I have a feeling somethings going.

I'll check that website ,thank you.

Check the connection and smear some dielectric grease.

Is it the same fog light as the one that was replaced when it was under warranty? If so, the dealer will have paperwork on it, and it should still have warranty coverage on the replacement. If an item was replaced under warranty and the vehicle warranty expires, the part that was replaced should still be covered. Check with your service adviser.

The DRLs on mine are only those horizontal LED bars in front of the head lights, not the fogs. Fog lights only come on when the head lights are on and you've pulled the center of the HL switch outward into the on position for them.

You can also buy these used all day long on the forums and on Ebay for a fraction of the price of a new one.

FOG light

It's the same one that went out before, the dealer would not warranty even though my warranty is still in effect until the end of this month. Kind of a slimy things to do I think.

So far the light is back on and working on its own but I don't know how long It will continue.

And getting to the plug to see if it's tight is really a nightmare I think the best way to get to it from under the car and reach up to the grill, can't get it from the top even after removing the cover plate that goes over them in the radiator.

Probably quicker to just take the bumper off. That's about a 15 minute job and will give totally access.

I guarantee it would not be a 15 minute job with me I work slow.
Somehow I will get my head on that plug though

It's really easy. It's remove the lower panel screws (19) and undertray, remove the upper trim push pins and rad cover. 4 7mm bolts (2 per fender) and pop the bumper off each fender side and pretty much done.

It's squeezy without removal, for sure, long fingers and skinny hands help.

Guy at work says a friend of his had a problem with his LED fog light in his Mustang, he told me he thought it was the plug, they go through heat cycles and get looser.
I don't know if that's true but that's a good possibility as mine has worked every day after that photo.

Another reason for dielectric grease and getting my hands to that plug.

Maybe this will help somebody with the same problem apparently it's pretty common.

... Heat cycles loosening the plug

I run the things pretty much all the time, bc they are the DRLs and LEDs generally tend not to run hot like HIDs or halogens do but, it's still possible. There is a big heat sink on there for a reason.

You're not kidding that heat sink is massive.
I have to say mine was flickering as if it had a lose contact, I wish I could get that plug easier than it is I can't even see it.

Oh ok. Do you use them a lot? They aren't supposed to be on at great lengths.
My dad says add a relay switch, 'cause "the fog lights use a crazy-*** amount of juice, & the wiring is cheap junk probably made in japan"

Jeez, your Dad is living in 1950. These are LED fogs, they don't pull alot of juice and things made in Japan are pretty first class, we have China to hate on for the cheap crap these days.

Mine are on for DRLs all the time. I have a very late 14 and it does weird ****, plus it is a Canadian car. At first, Canadian 13s didn't get grille fogs bc of the strange lighting rules up here. This car, though, has them and uses them as DRLs, like my old 12 did.

...i know led's use little juice, & stuff.
I'm Canadian too, but why would your foglights be DRLs???
I have never heard or seen that here(?)
foglights shouldn't be used for long periods. (?)
thats the one thing i know.

I dunno why they are but, switch on, switch off, they are on during the day.

Why not run the bumper tinsel all the time? I have GT/CS fogs down low (with LED bulbs in) and the grille fogs up high. They are all on, all the time. I don't get missed being seen by others as often. It's rainy and gloomy out here on the wet coast frequently, visibility is poor and there are too many cell phone zombies out here. I'll take anything that helps me get noticed.

On my old 2012, I ran HIDs in the grille fogs, 35 watt kit. Now those were bright; like plasma flares on the bumper.

Hmm. thats odd that your fog lights are always on (?), since your DRLs are on too?...
Have you seen other Stangs like that? I haven't.

Do they require DRLs in the States? or just in certain states?

On mine, the headlights are DRL, but the rear lights are always on. i wanted to keep them off in daytime, so people can see my cool rear tint.
...maybe when Trump gets in, things can change! (lol jk jk)

DRLs are a Canadian thing. It's a simple switch flip in the ECM. So, say you bought a US car and wanted to register it here, you'd need to have Ford switch on DRLs using their disgnostic software.

Yeah thats what mine is like. but can i turn off my rear lights in the daytime?
My headlights & rear lights are always on.
& only my fog lights work when you pull them out... is there a replacement switch just to control the fog lights, would you know?

What I did with my 2012, to override the fogs-off with high beams on, was trace the stock circuit, which switches power and add in a separate power circuit from a 12V battery unused circuit in the fuse box. that was switched with a small switch hidden under the dash and et voila, fogs on whenever I wanted them.

My 13's fog lights can only be illuminated when the headlights on and with the engine running. I have the automatic lights with the delayed off feature set to 30 seconds. Even with the headlight switch and fog light switch pulled out to on, I can see them shut off (reflected from the washer dryer in my garage) as soon as I turn the ignition off. Only the headlights remain on with the delayed off function, or even if I have the head lights on in the manual position, fog lights shut off when the engine stops.

You're describing normal function of the autolamp setup.

My solution will override all the autolamp actions. Better remember to turn them off manually though, as they'll stay on for good setup the way I describe.
