Best option for a drag set up?

Hello all, after my horrendous day at the track last week, I'm ready to get some serious rubber and some lightweight drag wheels. I'm pretty much set on a pair of dark stars. Now, a few of my questions are, should I go with a 15x8 and play it safe, or should I relocate the sway bar out back and go 15x10.5. Second question is what should I run for a tire, and how wide and sidewall? The car is a 6 speed, 3.73's, lowered an inch and a half all around, and vortech'd at 6 pounds. My initial thought is a 15x8 with a 275/60/15, but I just want a little input from people who may have this exact set up. Thanks in advance gents.

Eric,

Just a pic for refernce. The car is low on Koni suspension and BMR control arms currently. Will be picking up some Strange adjustables. I'm more concerned with clearance issues than anything honestly.

Id go 15x8 with a good bias ply tire, since you are 6 speed. Too big of a good tire will most likely make you bog down unless you have some gears.

Definitely a 15x10 with a full slick. But the 3.73's are hurting you with the blower.

Yeah, like I said in my OP, I was thinking along the lines of a 15x8 with a 275. 50 or 60 sidewall? And suggestion for a particular tire?

I know the 3.73's aren't ideal for the blower, should've stuck with the 3.31's but that would've been no fun while I was stock lol. You think wider is better in this scenario grabber? I'm also worried about clearance like I said. I'm pretty low as I sit currently. What would suggest for a tire in particular? Mind you this will be a dedicated track set up. I was told a DR would be better for a 6spd but you think a full on slick would be better? Sorry for the noobness here...

Softer sidewall is better on a stick car.

For driveability I run a 275/60-15 ET Street Pro on 15x8 on my Cobra. Leave on the 2 step at 4000 and have zero traction issues.

With a bias ply I would bump the launch up to 5500 or 6000 and shave another .5 seconds but I like being able to cruise with no worries.

With correct suspension there is no reason you can't dead hook on a 275 width tire.

I'll add if it's truly a dedicated track setup go with a m&h cheater slick or hoosier quick time pro and let it eat. You will want something narrower on the front with either of those as you will have sway on the big end.
Never steer to correct the sway, keep the front wheels pointed where you want to go.

You can make the 3.73s work. It will take a little more effort and a dialed in set up to launch, but it can easily be done. Plus right now you are only running 6psi. You have gained a bit more HP, but you haven't jumped into an extreme range yet. Keep making trips to the track and you will keep adding more power. It's addicting.

Wider isn't always better. A 275/60-15 will work good. Also it should be on a 15x10, not a 15x8. Better contact patch plus the 15x8's stick out some from the wheel wells and you could have rubbing issues.

Manual needs a slick, not a drag radial. Drag radial + manual + power=broken parts.

That ET street pro looks pretty perfect for my particular set up. Keep in mind I'll be swapping out the tires at the track so there will be no miles on them other than the actual passes. Looks like it'll be soft enough to hook without being a full on slick. Think I may go this route. I only put down 460/390 on a low reading mustang dyno so I think I may be ok. Stock pulley obviously.

Crap, I just saw this post. So what do you suggest for a tire grabber? And 15x8's stick out further then the 10's?

275/60-15 ET Pro on 15x8 racestars. 18 psi. 4000 2 step launch. 490/490. 4.10 gears.
Traction is not an issue.

Just drive train stuff. Who really needs a drive shaft, or the tail shaft on a transmission?

The offset of the wheel is different. The 10" wheel tucks under the car more.

If it breaks it was meant to be upgraded anyway.

I have an upgraded shaft masters 1 piece as well forgot to mention that. I just want a tire that'll grab, possibly without destroying everything lol. Doesn't need to be extreme, just something to cut a sub 2 second 60. 2.2xx currently on all seasons lol

True

The M/T ET Pro is also a great tire and essentially a slick even though it's called a radial.

I think that's what I'm leaning towards grabber. You think it'll suit my needs? Not a crazy 3 season dragger, but I like to get down to the strip a few times during the summer and let her rip.

2014 setup

Im also pretty new to this, but have a similar setup to yours.
2014 gt, roush stage 1 kit, 465 rwhp, 440 tq. 3:73 ford racing gears, ford racing short shifter. American muscle track pac wheels 18x10, 305/40-18 mickey Thompson et street SS on the back. I got about 15 runs in now, getting 12.4s to 12.6s at about 115mph. Tires are sticking, nothing broken yet, knock on wood. in 2 weeks im having rear upper and lowercontrol arms, eibach pro kit springs, and a panhard installed. I want to get my car in the 11s. Next summer: aluminum driveshaft, roush stage 1 to stage 3 upgrade kit, then im hoping to be done!!hahahah

Not bad man. Yeah my best time was a 12.4 @ 121. Car def has mid 11's in it, just need the right tire and a good 60 ft. I have all the suspension and driveshaft modifications. I do need to swap out to some drag shocks though. That run was also ran with my heavy 19's.

Exactly. That's what I used as an excuse for more parts when I was racing bikes.

The all season tires are a large problem in your 60ft.

For sure brother. I knew that would be. This last time out was just to see what I'd trap. I just need something with some good bite.
