How big of a tire can I put on my 2014 mustang gt premium with the brembo brakes package? I know that they are 19 inch rims, but i don't know what the width of the rim is. I've hear 8.5 inch and 9 inch, does anyone know? I also have the 255 40 R 19 tires on them now, and wanted to put wider tires in the rear. So if you know, what size could I go with and if you have done it are there any problems or recommendations you would make?
Your welcome! I wish i had put them on all four but I have 255 Michellin Pilot Super Sports in the front and 275 Michellin pilot super sports in the rear. Next im going to do 275 up front and a 305 in the rear but will need a 10inch rim for that.
A 255 tire is just about 9" wide, you really want a 9.5" for 275s. Just because a tire fits on a rim does not mean you're utilizing the full contact patch, if you only have 9" of rim, you're only putting down 9" of tire.
How you want to spend your money is up to you, but i wouldn't go over 255, as i don't feel like paying for tire i wont be using.
That rim sure broke in a funny place to have been welded on or was done by an amateur.
I looked into widening my OE Brembo wheels to 10.5" in the rear and would have done it except the cost is $350 per wheel and then you have to have them repainted for another $100...at $450 per wheel I just bought OE 14 GT500 wheels
and tires for another $850.
If you want one of the most talented people in the business to widen an aluminum wheel this is the guy. He isn't cheap and usually booked a month or two out although he has widened some wheels that were on the Bonneville Salt flats at over 230mph with no issues.
His car was totaled in an accident, that damage is a result of that and not a widening gone bad. I believe he was offering that piece to weld on the OPs wheel for extra width as a joke
