Ive been thinking of converting my 14GT to e85.. i will like to know what are some pros and cons.. i was also wondering if i can use regular fuel once you tune the car.. thanks
1) MPG decrease.
2) Cold start issues (colder climates, I don't exactly know what "cold" really means. I presume freezing temps are an issue.
3) $$ Requires larger injectors.
4) Making sure local stations carry e85 that are close to your house. Some states only sell e54 like Arizona.
5) You will need 2 tunes if you want to switch.
Pros:
1) You can run more timing due to the retardation of detonation.
2) Smiles per gallon
You can also get a flex fuel tune from guys like Lund, so you can still run 93 if needed, but you won't make the same peak power on a flex fuel tune. If you daily your car, I'd think twice about going e85 full time.
Keep in mind it is not "flex fuel" still. Flex fuel would being able to change between normal and E85 willy nilly. You MUST still change the tune, and if its for only that fuel and not a mixture you need to run the tank damn near dry and then fill up and tune.
That's actually wrong. AED and Lund and I'm sure other tuners like VMP have tunes that work with mixed tanks of e85/91/93 doesn't matter what the blend is. They've had true flex fuel tunes available for quite a while, at least a year if I recall correctly.
I have lund tune on mine
Only thing I noticed is that it takes slightly longer to start up when it's about 30 degrees out side and takes longer to warm up. But the power is worth it to me
I read 47 lb injectors minimum to run E85 on a N/A coyote. I was searching online and American Muscle apparently do not recommend them for full bolt ons and E85. Why is that?
I am running a CAI, long tubes with dumped exhaust, 4.10s and also looking to run E85. BAMA will be the tunner until I get to my local dyno shop after the fuel swap.
