I hate my stock 235s. They suck and spin. I just have a bama tune. I plan on doing a full bolt on while I am in college, will summer perfomance tires be fine for good traction?

^^ cause people buy a mustang to drive "normal", as if you cant break them loose even without really trying.
moving on from a dumb reply, i have Michelin SS and i love them so far, i've even autocross with them. They still break lose (as every street tire will) but its very rare, i basically have to launch to get them to spin.
if you really want to get rid of the wheel spin, a good tire and suspension upgrade will benefit you tremendously.
Jek57 must work for ford, sounds like their whole the car doesnt lock you out of gear if you drive it "normal" crap. I have MT street comps in 275 and at the strip with just a quick warmup they stick good for my power level(catless tuned car with bmr suspension and konis)

Nitto make a nice soft rubber tire. Check on tire rack for reviews,
You will read all kinds of crap about them here by people that never used them.
Tire Rack tests a lot of the tires they sell and will give a good report. Ronnie
I run 255/45-18 NITTO 555 G2s and am not having any issues, can let 'em go with pressure or drive "normally" and notice a slight squeak when starting off with a turn or over the "painted" crosswalk lines. They seem to hold well in wet, but of course will get hop/skip/jump when pushing it in the wet as one would expect. Stock suspension, soon to trade up to STEEDA Pro-Action front and rear...we'll see
Yep. I had to really heat up the nittos to get them to grab but the bfgs were just good street radials. But don't expect any street radials to hook like a nt05 or an et street or something...

Are you talking NT05 or NT05R?. I have 295/40 18 NT05's and the obviously hook way better than the stock 235 pir, but I am bone stock otherwise. I did manage a 1.94 60' my first pass ever in the car (which is an auto).
The original 555 compound hadn't really been updated since the 90s. The 555 G2, which we have on my wife's car, is by far and away a superior tire. Is it a better tire than the BFG? No comment, but it is however much better than it used to be.
EVERYTHING will hook better than the all-season crap the regular GTs come with. Not really the best comparison. I've had BBP on my last 2 S197s and I was not pleased with the summer only P Zerotractions on my 2012. I do like the Goodyear F1 Supercars on my current 14. They ride better than any summer performance tire I've tried, good turn in, good grip, low noise and surprising cold-weather grip. I'll likely replace them with the same when they are done.
I'd suggest if you're open to anything, Pilot Supersports, Conti DW, or the aforementioned F1 Supers will yield a large increase in performance. None of them are going to last long but, that's reality of summer only perf tires.
