I have a 2012 Mustang GT and am looking to get some more power out of it without it being to ridiculous for a daily driver. I would also like to have a louder deeper exhaust note without it being too obnoxious. I know guys have asked similar questions like this, but I can’t decide which route is best to go. All thoughts and opinions are welcome.
I guess it depends what you want to spend. Not possible to even make a guess without a budget because there is such a range of modifications available to your car. That's lucky, of course, because there is something for everyone and every budget.
You can expect most people to strongly recommend exactly what they themselves have. It justifies their choices.
I think you should supercharge if it is in your budget because it gives a stock drive when cruising and under part throttle but delivers mind-boggling insanity under full load. Adrenaline plus.
Obviously the GT500 axle back mufflers are the answer for you. Drone free at cruising speed and sound beefy as heck at full throttle. (I have the quad tips that don't match up with your car but because I have GT500 mufflers I have to recommend them to you anyway. Hopefully the dual tip sound about the same?)
By complete coincidence this is the route I have gone and I have never regretted it. No mechanical problems and no pesky losses to cars that have no right to eat my lunch.
Gut the motor and put in 14:1 pistons. The car has vvt so may as well throw a monster cam in there, it'll idle just fine. Since you're doing cams i'd just go ahead and do valve springs and retainers while we're in there and bada bing, bada boom you got a probably 550 whp monster.
Now, of course with 14:1 compression you'll be running E85, which makes it a great daily driver because E85 burns cleaner for the environment. #winning.
If you are going to do your exhaust correctly on a Coyote you are going to spend $1500-$2k. Period.
Can keep the cost down a bit by going with Dynatech vs Kooks or ARH but its up to you really. Longtubes to a good catted pipe to a GT500 catback sounds ridiculously good.
