How does your VVT compare to the logs posted above? I wonder if they have your VVT wrong because they think you have a Boss intake or something? Granted, 3* is a decent bit of knock, and 5-7 whp is not uncommon per degree (that's obviously a very broad generalization).

Hey VW - how would I check my VVT compared to the log, like you’re wondering about?

You can check what the values are in 500 rpm intervals. Like what is your intake and exhaust cam value (and load) at 3000, 3500, 4000 etc... and compare them to Zombieslayers datalogs i posted above.

Should I do that with my stock tune, or the BAMA?

Well, here's what I found at various RPMS:
(VVT and AFR averaged between bank 1 and 2)
(AFR measured from Lambse bank 1 and 2, displayed in lambda)

3500
Knock: 0.85
Load: 0.67
AFR: 0.85
VVT in: -46.25
VVT out: 13.56

4000
Knock: 0
Load: 0.8
AFR: 0.85
VVT in: -46.18
VVT out: 11.88

4500
Knock: 2.0
Load: 0.86
AFR: 0.85
VVT in: -44.10
VVT out: 10.19

5000
Knock: 3.0
Load: 0.85
AFR: 0.85
VVT in: -35.43
VVT out: 9.54

5500
Knock: 2.75
Load: 0.85
AFR: 0.85
VVT in: -24.75
VVT out: 9.07

6000
Knock: 2.5
Load: 0.81
AFR: 0.83
VVT in: -18.5
VVT out: 9.38

6500
Knock: 2.25
Load: 0.79
AFR: 0.83
VVT in: -14.00
VVT out: 10.07

7000
Knock: 1.75
Load: 0.73
AFR: 0.83
VVT in: -13.25
VVT out: 9.07

7200
Knock: 1.75
Load: 0.72
AFR: 0.83
VVT in: -13.75
VVT out: 8.44

I really don't know how to interpret the cam timing stuff.

In and of itself it wouldnt mean much, you would want to compare to other people's tunes with similar mods. Thats some decent knock though, how many revisions?

First revision, BAMA hasn't seen that log yet.
As far as mods, mines 100% stock.
But yeah, 3 degrees. That's fairly intense.

Sorry, i meant from your car on that dyno. Every dyno will read differently, so if you baselined at like 320 whp and then ended up at 380 you still gained 60 whp you know regardless of the fact that the number seems too low.
No unfortunately I did not have a baseline from that dyno. I haven't redyno'd it since to see if it was just that dyno. But I agree, numbers should be higher. Going for a different tune and then redyno it.

Disappointed with BAMA Tunes

Unfortunately, I think it’s time to move on from BAMA.

Their service actually turned out to pretty good after all. After the initial lag time and slow responses around the holidays, on the rest of my communications with them they responded within twelve hours.

However, I am now on the second revision of their race V2 tune. Same problems as before. Under 5700 RPM, there’s a solid 23-26 RWHP AND 28-30 TQ. But, just like before, on the initial tune and on the first revision, at 5700 RPM the power and torque curves flatten out and lose power compared to stock.

I think I’ll just have my local shop dyno tune it for me.

I'd recommend AED personally, probably cheaper than a dyno tune as well, but i still encourage you to do your own research on different tuners.
