overheating

Help my 93 lx keeps getting hot. I've changed the thermostat and the thermostat housing. Any clues as to what else may be causing this to happen

Re: overheating

Dude

There are SOOOOOO many things that could cause that!

What changes have you made and when does this occur. If you want a good answer, be VERY thorough with your answer.

Re: overheating

how old is the radiator? could be clogged up, also is the fan working or going on/off etc, i assume its the fan on the belt drive right so it wont be that?

I haven't made any other changes except from the new thermostat and housing and its not a leak in the hoses. The Guy at the parts store said it may be an airbuble in the system. He said to drain it so I'm in the process of draining the system and refilling it. If this isn't the problem I have no idea what it could be. My water pump is working fine because I've got the pressure on the top and bottom hoses

Re: overheating

Air bubble? Naaaaaa........not in a 2.3.
Draining it wouldn't solve that LOL!

Things to look at:

Clogged radiator................it is original!

Fan functions............shroud still there.

Head gasket leak.

Timing belt.........could have jumped a few teeth

Re: overheating

it could be air in the system as well~ need to "burp" it good before you install something thats not needed, but a radiator should be replaced every 10 years~

A 2.3 doesn't really have air bubble problems like a dang mod motor.

All you need to do with a 2.3 is fill the system, wait for the stat to open, runt it for a few min while adding a bit of coolant, shut off and let cool, then top off to the proper level when cool.
