Transmission problems

Hey guys,

So the other day I picked up a 1990 Mustang LX automatic to use as my daily driver. I got it basically for free and it has a few problems I need to work out before I start driving it around. The first of which is a transmission issue I was hoping to get some advice on.

Anyways to get to the point it doesn't want to shift at all. Seems like its stuck in gear and I can't get any power to take off. I have to rev it almost to its limit then let off to get it to shift at all and when it does it really clunky. I check the transmission fluid and its way over full, not sure if that's part of the problem or not. I'm by no means and mechanic but I like to do things myself so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Transmission problems

Your transmission is in a serious need of a rebuild, imho, if you got the car for free, surely you can pay to have the transmission checked out...

Re: Transmission problems

Yeah I was just hoping it would be something I could do myself.
My 67 is in the shop right now having some body work done,
after that I don't know if I'm going to want to drive it everyday.

Thanks for the advice though, I'll have to start looking into my options.

Re: Transmission problems

It's possible it just needs fluid, filter and adjusting. It might not cost much to fix...

Re: Transmission problems

That's good to know, I've never messed with a transmission before so it really helps haha. Really looking forward to getting it to run right so I only have to drive my other car when I want to

Re: Transmission problems

That sounds like a really good plan to me...
