Shift issues

I bought a 93 2.3L notch auto last week, it's been setting for a while. It runs awesome but the tranny doesn't want to shift while driving. You have to feather the gas to get it to up shift. It down shifts fine when you get on it. It is almost like it hangs between gears reving the engine and finally it will go. Is it in need of a rebuild or could it be a servo on the outside I can change out. I changed the fluid and filter today with no help. Any input is appreciated

Re: Shift issues

Sounds like blown/old syncros. Your tranny needs to be rebuilt.

I was afraid of that. I've decided to put in a 5 speed. Thanks

Re: Shift issues

5-Speed? Make sure that the 5-speed you select will mate exactly to your bell housing, Etc. At the same time I suggest that you also R & R the Clutch, throw-out-bearing, pressure plate and rear oil seal.

Can I use a T5 out of a v8 car? I did a 5.0 conversion a few years ago so I'm aware of most of the interchangeable parts but I'm insure of the tranny.

It will work same as if you had a 93 5.0 to put in. Not too difficult

The 83 5.0 has a carburetor. Ford did not start EFI until 86'

Re: Shift issues

I have a 1986 2.3. It is carburated. I don't think that the Mustang was offered with EFI until 1987. Except for the SVO...Maybe!
