alternator question

Sup guys I'm having a strange idle when I turn on my car and when I turn on the air. Someone told me that it could be my alternator? When I turn the car on it goes to 2300 rpm. That's pretty high. When I turn on the vents my idle goes to 500 and wants to die. Also I heard that the alternator can be fixed by changing the voltage regulator on the back of it for $20 or junkyard. Is it true?? Or should I just rebuild it for $45 ??? Please let me know.

Mine does the same thing. I have to let mine warm up for 15 or so minutes and it drops to around 1000 rpm and steady idles.

Anybody know if my 88 mustang alternator has its voltage regulator internally? Cause I don't see it on the outside
