The 89' 5.0 ran a 14.8 w/ man and 15.0 w/ auto

The 85' 2.3T 14.80 AT 93 MPH.

I own a shop, a drag car & truck, and what I think is this: I haven't seen many 2.3 T Stangs run at the drag strip, but I sure see a lot of 5.0 Stangs. The reason "must" be the 5.0 are faster, or there would be more of the 2.3 there. If you build a 2.3 T, and do some upgrades to it, then it can be made to out run the 5.0's, but do the same to the 5.0's, and you have a 10 second car pretty easily. If it was me, I would invest in building a stroker engine for the Stang, and you would see a pretty awesome ride. I know this because I have to race them all the time. They are quick.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

The 5.0 It is one of the reasons besides the extra cost that the turbo stang did not sell that well.
