2.3 build question!!!

Am gonna drop a 2.3 in my mustang. My reason is fuel economy, and 5 spd conversion. It's an 86. PLEASE DO NOT comment with comments regarding v8's being better. I get it. Thanks!

My question:

Can I get a Ford Focus zx3 DOHC 16v 2.3 head and put it on a mustang/ranger 2.3 block?

I couldn't seem to find any DOHC rwd heads/engines that are 2.3l.

Thank you!

If memory serves me correctly the only head that can be used on a 2.3 rwd block is a head off of an 89-90 Volvo four cyl. Engine. There may be an after market head but I can't think of any. The clove head will need to be machined to work though.
Good luck!

The Volvo head is damn near impossible and VERY expensive your best bet would be to find a svo or turbo coupe motor

I seriously thought about it for my turbo car I could do it if I had the funds but It would be a head ache and a half your better off buying a turbo head and getting a valve job and ported and polished

there are plenty of volvo B234 head swaps onto the 2.3l "pinto" engine. and the others are right, there is a lot of fabrication that needs to be done to make the swap happen. you can google folvo, or volvo head swap and find lots of information. however if you want a dual overhead cam four cylinder ford engine in your mustang, you might consider swapping in a duratec 2.3l four cylinder with the 5 speed instead. most duratec engines are front drivers, but as i recall the ranger had the ranger had the duratec engine in the last few years of its production, but check on that to be sure.

in fact here are a couple of threads on the idea;

and here are a few threads on the volvo head swap

and a bing search on the head swap;
