It's obvious your a fan boy. The GT500s are great, but quit over producing and taking from the cookie jar at the same time. The Boss may not make more power or have exactly a better ET but the Boss IMO embarrasses the GT500 right now. Guess what!? It doesn't have a $15,000 markup on it for a signature either. Actually it's embarrassing more than just a counter part of Ford... Audi R8s and pretty much everything else that lines up to it are $100K or more. The GT500 has soo much potential, but you're paying for a ****ing name tag. They could Call it the Ford Mustang Snake for all I give a ****. The Cobra would be here with or without Shelby.. maybe a different name, but it would be here. Shelby didn't make the Mustang Ford did. It was their idea, their engines, their ****. This isn't about History at this point don't get it twisted. I'm not paying the Shelby premium as many people won't: Hence the popularity of a 7-8 year old Terminator. Quit feeding the Old man and his family. He's well past his point of relevancy.

Heck I'm a fanboy and I don't even own a 500!!!! but while Ford probably would have had the Cobra regardless Shelby did a lot for the name and nobody knows what would have happened without his help all those years ago...The release of the new GT500 gave dreamers such us myself that have always wanted one a little more hope to have one...having said that I 100% agree with Spec in saying it should be a very limited production...and whatever they decide to do it won't be cheap...you'll pay for that snake on the side of your car one way or the other...the Terminators weren't cheap new either...hell they still aren't cheap.

I say go with the SVT Cobra, not only is it more affordable it is truly Ford. It's not going to the deep pockets of Shelby.

Go SVT cobra and just let shelby do his own thing, if people want a shelby in 2014, thats fine just go buy it from Carroll Shelby. I luv shelby GT500 but for the price you should at least get an independent rear suspension, I mean come on

I would rather the option, I would rather IRS but some still want the Live axle.

I don't really care either way to be honest. They are both Cobra's in me eyes and a next tier vehicle. I'm less concerned with whose name is on it as I am to performance, etc.

Re: Should Ford Ditch Shelby in 2014?

Not really sure why everyone is on the SVT wagon personally....IMO the only SVT they came out with that was worth a lick in my eyes was the termi. Rumor has it the only reason that drivetrain came about was because they missed deadline after deadline and someone was going to be thrown to the fire if they didnt produce, so they tossed really good components in there and called it a day.

And so people don't get confused, I love the termi's. Almost picked one up instead of my 2012 but after looking at them again after so many years I just can't stand the interiors of that body style anymore

And just saying Shelby is producing 550hp with the gt500 while svt was only producing 400hp in their cobras. I love both but don't try and knock Shelby, he is the king and will always be. I vote let the customers see who wins. Whoever sells more stays and ford kicked svt off for a reason.

Shelby had nothing to do with the gt500 other than slap his name on it and tack on money for nothing.

You need to read iron fist, lead foot. It will fully explain how the terminator came to be. It's a great read.

With plans to make the Shelby GT500 have over 600hp for 2013 I say keep it.

Plus will ford make a Cobra to compete with the Camaro ZL1?

Re: Should Ford Ditch Shelby in 2014?

Absolutely NOT!!! The name "Shelby" stands for innovation, leading cutting-edge technology, and award winning performance. Changing to Shelby GT600 SVT or GT6XX SVT (whatever the horsepower is going to be) would make more sence. Keeping the Shelby moniker is synonymous with WINNING and modern age performance. Cobra, on the other hand is a bit nostalgic, antiquated, and has a stale ring of “old, yesterday’s news” instead of a bright fresh look into the future. That’s my two cents.

I think you confused Shelby with SVT.

Great way to put it. I couldn't find a pc way to say what I was thinking when comparing a badge (Shelby) with true r&d design and innovation (svt).

Re: Should Ford Ditch Shelby in 2014?

Sorry, Brent. I guess my thought was, by all means keep the Shelby. Insead of offering thier SVT package as an option, just make part of the vehicle. Hence, the idea of a Shelby GT6XX SVT. For that matter, they could just drop the SVT lable all together, making it a part of the Shelby.

Re: Should Ford Ditch Shelby in 2014?

Another thought, based on ME news I received earlier today. I guess keeping the model designator GT500 will be appropriate afterall, as support for twin-turbo's dies within Ford. Too bad, I was really looking forward to a 600(+) HP version.

You still have it backwards. Keep the svt because that's who does the work. Drop the Shelby because all he does is sit back and collect a check for ford putting his name on the car.

Also, it's not an svt package. Svt, or what's left of svt, built the car. Shelby just tagged his name on it for a paycheck.

I say Shelby. I know it's a little comical seeing the Shelby name on EVERYTHING, but until the GT500, the Cobra was just a Mustang GT with more ponies. (and until 2003, not that many more)
