2013 Shelby GT500

So what is the real deal with the 2013 GT500? From what I have read it's going to boast about 620 horsepower and maintain for the most part the same body lines. Some of the spy shots have canards on the front but I can't imagine Ford going ricer with an American icon.
I'm sure we all heard the rumors of the turbo set up and also of the new supercharger which is also used on the ZR1 Corvette.
Does anyone have any inside information as to what is really going ?

Well I just got my 5.0 but I wanted to put a supercharger or turbo on it. So the wife freaked out because she wants a warranty. We compromised, if I don't spend any more on the 5.0 I can get a 2013 gt500

I actually wrote this up for AmericanMuscle today. An intercooler was spotted behind the grill and it was spotted with a hole cut out of the foglights indicating turbo.

Yeah they re supposedly getting rid of the 5.4-liter and running a t/c 5.0. It was spotted over in Europe running the track.

620hp rated on the motor or to the wheels? I watched a dyne on a stock GT500 rated at 500hp but Dyno test showed around 468hp or so to the wheels. Is this strictly a rating on the engine from Ford?

Oh you see one, you're just not going to be owning one in your near future.

Re: 2013 Shelby GT500

I hope that the rumors are correct. Turbo Charged Mustang = best thing ever! turbo is much more efficient power then s/c. I also love the fact that they are getting into the "super car" status with this horsepower to keep up with the ZR1, but hopefully without the super car price tag of $110K starting like the ZR1.

Does anyone know what the new stang will be priced at?

It's possible since I have less than half to pay off on this one already which means by the time I'm ready to buy again I will be looking at a $25k note on a GT 500 after trade......it's possible but right now it's not on the radar. I would rather just slap on a blower and be perfectly fine with a lil ol' 600whp 5.0

Either is a good plan!!! I am always about instant gratification so I would through a blower on that 5.0 now. Let me tell you, 600hp is nice to have on any car. it's sick fast! Can't use all of that power most of the time. But it seems to come in handy when some Punk Corvette owner pulls up next to you. HA

Re: 2013 Shelby GT500

READ THIS ON FORD INSIDE NEWS
Just a few years ago, Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) was a shadow of its former self. That has all changed with its new range of products and will continue for the 2013 modelyear. Through its new partnership with Ford of Europe’s Team RS, SVT will double its lineup in addition to an update on an existing vehicle.

As we already know, the first joint effort between Ford’s two wholly owned performance teams will be the Focus ST. This will use the Focus’s five-door hatch body style and a 2.0-liter I4 EcoBoost engine with an estimated 247 horsepower. Production will take place in Wayne, Michigan and Saarlouis, Germany for North America and Europe. Australia and New Zealand should also receive imported models through Germany. No word as to if other plants will produce the vehicle.

SVT’s second new model in the lineup will be the second generation Fiesta ST. FIN can silence rumors as to what horsepower the model will carry. According to a source within Ford, the Fiesta ST with its 1.6-liter I4 EcoBoost engine will deliver 180 horsepower. The European and North American models will be different due to their slight engineering and design differences. The Fiesta ST for Europe will be offered in a three-door body style while the North American model will be offered in the five-door body style.

To “one up” General Motors’ releasing of the 556 horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Ford’s SVT will give the 2013 Shelby GT500 a heart transplant. Unlike the current supercharged 5.4-liter, the new engine will be turbocharged. Though FIN cannot bring you the engine's new displacement, a 5.0 and 5.8 have been rumored. We can tell you that the engine will deliver a Camaro-killing 650 horsepower according to our sources. This upgrade will make the 2013 GT500 the most powerful, factory made Mustang ever.

The people at SVT and Team RS are hard at work bringing the world the best in automotive performance. We can only hope that the 2013 model year is only the beginning of more models being added to performance lineup.

I have to see if I can find it but ford put out that it would not be turbo'd but will be over 600hp. Said they was putting a stop to all the rumors.

So got the new update from this site saying 20 hp increase and definitely no turbo. What happened to all the 600 hp talk by Ford. Are they going to wait for the 2014 model? Should I go buy the GT500 on the lot right now for x plan before it's no longer available?

600hp to the wheels wouldn't exactly make the car street legal in more than a few states.. -

I watched a track test for the new gt500 on youtube from a online Car and Driver type of dotcom and you could see the big intercooler up front but you could also hear the whine of a twinscrew so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be turbo'd!!!

Re: 2013 Shelby GT500

Ford has confirmed it will not be turbo'd. The intercooler most likely where they are helping get the extra power.

HAs no one seen intercoolers with SC before?

---------- Post added at 12:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 PM ----------

ALso there is a big redesign cokming in 2014 for so I would hold off till it comes. Or least see if it comes.

If the GT500 don't live up to the hype with changes my next car will be a Z06.
