Superchargers???

Figured this would be the best place to ask the question because I'm pretty sure all Shelby's are supercharged. I only have a small little v6 compared to you guys lol but I want to learn about the different supercharges. Ive heard of whipple chargers, twin screw chargers, blowers, and maybe one or two more. I don't want to sound dumb but what's the difference between all of these? Does one have more power output than the other? Is one more easier to install? Which ones are more reliable? Are they all belt driven? I just want to learn the basics of the different types. Any help would be appreciated! Oh and if you can post different pictures of each that would be great as well. Thanks!

Whipple/ kennybell are twinscrews. Then there is roots style superchargers which are like the eatons on the 03-04 cobra. Then there is the procharger/vortec/pakton wich are centrifugal style.

U will get more power usually out of the twinscrew vs the roots at higher boost levels with the twinscrews also. the centrifugal are great a high boost levels also. Look at my profile pics my old 03 cobra had the roots style and the foxbody has a centrifugal procharger f1r on it 1200 at tires

Re: Superchargers???

also.... twin screw or wuts called a "positive displacement" blower has a linear power curve. its pretty much instant boost if u stomp it.

centrifugals the boost tends to increase with rpm. kinda like a turbo, but the spool rate is usualy alot quicker in low rpm.

mod motors (4.6) really benefit from "pd" blowers cause they lack low end torque compared to a pushrod motor.

pushrod motors make a bit more toque down low, so a centrifugal blower can help to put the power down better since the boost curve isnt as linear and climbs with rpm.

hope this helps u out..

Woah, that's a lot of information. Thanks a lot guys that does help a lot. Much more different types than I thought. Anyone have any recommendations on a supercharger for a v6? Or is that even possible? It's a 99 3.8L stock. Just has k&n cold air intake if that makes any difference. Just wanna get some ideas for a little more fun on my dd

Re: Superchargers???

u will be happy with either or... trust me. i currently have a centrifugal..but im considering going twin screw (positive displacement), cause of the instant torque.

u have the option of doing either one..or even a turbo. if u check on utube there are a few cammed up v6's as well as forced induction applications to help u decide

Alright I will definitely check that out. By the way, what is a cam or "cammed" up mean?
