I believe you are correct but I am not going to be going 200MPH but I will be driving it on the road where there stands a chance for things to hit it. I figure this would make it a little safer then a big wide opening. If it looks good if not then I will wait.

Hey how did you do your lights? Did you have them painted or is that a vinyl? And have you gotten any grief from the fuzz over it?

Just throwing this idea out there was watching Jay's Garage and they had a corvette with rear end turbos. So my question is with my '12 gt500 could that be a beneficial power/torque gain? Or would Carroll be turning over in his grave??

Thanks I have a 13 also and was wondering about doing this. Where all the holes there or how hard was it to mount?

The mounting tab/hoop locations are identical for the 10/11/12/13 (and I'd assume 14s). The front bumper is rubber and the hoops are flexible. As long as the weather is warm enough for the bumper to be flexible, it is VERY EASY! Just some gentle pulling in the locations where the tabs/hoops are and it pops right out.

I have a really good tint guy that has some flexible and durable tint. I haven't been stopped yet, but I live in an area where officers let some vehicle mods slide.

I have a question. Will the 13 blower off a 5.8 bolt on an 07 that is 5.4?

I think that it worked out best for both of us. Love the 13s on your bad *** car & love the 12s on my little grocery getter. Thanks again. And BTW, I like your plates but mine are just a little better...

Thanks and I think The garage comment is a hint make an offer...lol also here is a pic of what my tint guy did. He ran the tint over the whole light, formed it to the reverse light and then cut a slit so I didn't lose my white light for reverse.

No grille in '13 due to heat issues, keep an eye on this.

The mammoth is def a great twin screw... Makes a world of difference. EspeciAlly with the dual pass intercooler + methanol injection. Bye bye heat issues.

I'd expect that the heat issues are due to more extreme driving, not just cruising around town. I did a 3 hour cruise with some "spirited driving" in 98° weather and my temperature never even came close to reaching the high end of the normal range.

More important than the "decreased airflow restrictions", the 2013 grills create downforce to keep the front end planted at high speeds. The bottom lips of both the upper & lower spoilers are airfoil shaped. Take a close look and you will see. Sneaky those SVT Engineers!

Um, the upper and lower spoilers aren't in the grill just FYI. Believe me, it's certainly due to heat relief. Drive it hard and you'll see.

You're definitely entitled to your opinion. If you do just a little research, you'll find that SVT purposely designed the grills to help keep the nose down at high speeds.

Really, all you have to do is look at the lower surface of the grills to realize that they are purposely not flat like the 2010-2012 grills.

So you think the absence of a grill insert is for downforce?

The grill design for the 13 is for increased cooling & generating downforce. If you can find this site, I'm sure you can find that info too.

Taken from Motor Trend:
While a 650-hp V-8 has a lot to do with the Shelby GT500's newfound 200-mph top speed, aerodynamics play a huge role as well. The 2013 GT500's front fascia was designed to not only maximize cooling to the 5.8-liter mill, but also to maximize downforce while minimizing drag. To accomplish this, SVT's engineers modified the GT500's front end with a new front splitter and downforce-generating front grilles. Ford says that in designing the GT500's aero to deal with the stress of 200 mph, it also improved the car's feel all around so it remains more planted at all speeds. To put a number on the aero changes, Ford says the 2013 GT500 is 33 percent more planted at 160 mph compared to the outgoing model.

"The 2013 GT500's front fascia was designed to not only maximize cooling to the 5.8-liter mill, but also to maximize downforce while minimizing drag".

Seriously though, they made "the grill" more aerodynamic and the new down force is generated mostly by the front splitter. Do you really think they left out the "grill insert" because it would hinder downforce or that it would hinder airflow into the grill?

Not trying to argue, just pointing out that cooling was the reason for the "open" grill, not downforce.

BTW, just because MOTOR TREND writes it doesn't make it true...they also list hp at 650 (which is wrong).

They also say "To put a number on the aero changes, Ford says the 2013 GT500 is 33 percent more planted at 160 mph compared to the outgoing model."...so guess it's a moot point since your vert is limited to 155. :p

Motor Trend isn't the only source that describes the purpose of the 2013 grill design. But since you're obviously "that guy," you wouldn't believe it even if you heard it straight from Jamal Hameedi.

Ford's own original Press Release said 650 HP. They revised it to 662 HP SAE afterwards. There are still articles out there that were published before the revised 662 figure was released. Even Carroll Shelby himself is seen quoting 650 in some footage.

Here are pictures of the 2 sets of grills I took when I swapped them out.

UPPER GRILLS:

LOWER GRILLS:

The 2013 lower grill has openings at each end for the oil cooler & diff cooler for the track pack cars. If you don't have the track pack option, there are no coolers in these areas and don't serve any function.

Just visually, I don't see how the honeycomb design makes that much difference in air flow. Of course I have no dog in this fight. I just don't see how the honeycomb will cause that much heat. Of course I'm no Shelby engineer. I just like the look after they have been changed. By no means trying to step on anyone's toes. Just my opinion.
