2013 as DD

Hey everyone! Looking at taking the plunge on a GT500 and had a question about daily driving.

I live in Houston and have a 30 mile 45 min drive each way. How is the gearing and shiftability setup for rush hour style traffic? I know in 6th at 80mph the engine is at about 1700 rpm so that is good.

Dealers won't let you test drive so I can't get a first hand account. I have read all the posts in this section and didn't see anyone tackle this question before. Apologies if it was and I missed it.

I can't speak for the 500 as I have a Shelby GT but I used mine last year as a daily driver for awhile in bumper to bumper traffic and I enjoyed every minute of it. Added bonus, your left leg will get a good workout!

Well I own a 13 GT500 and I really am not sure if I would want to drive it every day in heavy traffic. 1st 2nd and 3rd are setup for getting up to speed very quickly. I can merge in 1st just shifting to 2nd most of the time 4th 5th and 6th are for cruising along from 45 on up. If you are normally moving at a slower speed you will be in one of the lower gears and depending on the speed you may be doing 1200 or so RPM so gas wise might not be that bad. But stopping and starting a lot following someone with someone on my tail I am pretty sure I would just buy a beater and use it instead. Hope this helps

I have a 2013 and it is a dd and I have about 12,000 miles on it and love driving it every day. I also had a 2010 &2012 gt500 and those were daily drivers. If you are worried about gas mileage then you shouldn't have brought your gt500. Enjoy your car.

Not worried about gas mileage at all. I work for an oil company so I see it as increasing my job security.

The question was more... Does the gearing allow for easy bumper to bumper traffic or since the first gear is good to 60mph (don't know what 2 is good for) does it put you in an odd rpm range.

It has plenty of power 0-180 so there is no real issue. You could let off the clutch and the car would move plenty without applying the gas.

It is not different than any other high power car in traffic. If is the stock clutch, (which is pretty stout either way), it will be something you get used to regardless.

they drive fine and work great, if you stay out of the boost they drive like a normal car nothing crazy at all, you get into the boost is when you get into the power so AVOID That in the rain etc until you get used to how the car acts and you are good

I have a 07 GT500 and it's my daily driver. I don't see anything wrong with driving it everyday. Why buy a car and not drive it? Good luck with the 2013 GT500

I have a 13 that is not my dd but I would think from owning a 12 prior that it was greatly improved upon in every way....including making it more conducive for someone driving it everyday. Couldn't see myself using the 12 as a dd especially w the 1st to 2nd grinding issues most of them have. The 13 is smooth as butter and the clutch is not heavy at all. Just my 2 cents.
